The Lord of the Rings vs. Dark Knight inevitable finale is fast approaching. Let's just make sure the right LotR film makes it into the finals.

I object to this poll, and I refuse to vote for either movie as it just adds to their cumulative total. Two decent movies, but totally undeserving of winning it all.

My BF is a LotR superfan. He's read the books multiple times and went to the theater to see all three of the films 4 times each and has since seen them countless times. I asked him between these two, which is the best and he agreed that Fellowship is better. The only thing I miss in Fellowship is Golum. I know he's briefly in it but still, he and Gandalf are my favorite characters but Fellowship is the best. Nothing like a good old fashioned wizard fight!

For me, a lot of Fellowship comes down to just how much of an adventure film it feels like. It really feels like you're taking a journey through this big, fantastical world. It's all unfolded real nicely. The Moria stuff is simply incredible. The final battle at the end of the film is pretty perfect in its scale. The next two movies just don't have the same sense of wonder. A good chunk of Towers either takes place in Rohan, some fields and some cliffsides, and then a good chunk of it takes place at Helm's Deep. The third film brings some more adventure stuff into it, but it just doesn't feel the same. Fellowship is definitely more focuses. We follow Frodo and these hobbits, then they journey, pick up some people, but they travel all in a big group in the same direction with the same goal. Once they get split up the story just loses something for me. I don't find Aragorn's side of the story near as interesting as Frodo/Sam/Gollum's. My favourite stuff in Return of the King is about Denethor, but it doesn't really get a whole lot of time.

Gonna have to agree, I own LOTR movies on bluray but they are not the best of the decade.

It, Shining, Salem’s Lot, Mr. Mercedes, The Stand

Eh, popularity isn't necessarily an indication of quality.

Yeah but regardless of quality or popularity, one of these two is moving on to the finale. I'm not sure what not voting for either is accomplishing.

Completely agree. I will never forget sitting in the theater at the end of the Fellowship. When Aragorn sheathes his dagger and proclaims, "Let's hunt some orc!" I was literally cheering ready for the next part of this adventure. Then it hit me we had to wait a year.

The poll has closed. The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring moves on and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King is eliminated.
