Second question. I'm more comfortable on author forums, you hardly ever have any flaming and you are not getting in flame wars with other members, which I have been known to do on gaming forums. It's just a more relaxed atmosphere on an authors forum.

I've only used the tabs on Ultimate Guitar, not the forums, but so much of the tablature on that site is so wrong that it pissed me off and I don't ever use it anymore.
