So What Else Do You Do?

It’s pretty much a given that everyone here is a Stephen King fan and enjoys reading but I thought it would be fun to see what else everyone likes outside of those.

I’ll start off.
As you can guess by my nickname and avatar I like cars and more specifically spirited driving. The video below will illustrate what I like to do on the weekends.

Also most of my posts are in Calvin’s Corner and I am a collector. In addition to my SK collection I also collect vintage soda dispensers. Here are a few of mine.

Don't really collect anything else myself. I have some sports memorabilia, mainly Chicago related.

I like all sorts of books... I try to collect signed 1st editions when I can of the authors I enjoy. I've started collecting those damn Funko Pop figures and they've become highly addicting. I have a large collection of "stuff"

I collect other writers, records and I used to change guitars (Gibson only) and amps on almost weekly basis. I also have a pretty big graphic novel collection and god knows how many longboxes of single issues.

Billl. As you put Coke in quotation marks, I was expecting a completely different product.


I enjoy auto racing. My parents took me to the track for the first time when I was 7 months old. It would have been sooner but I was born in October and the Hoosier weather just doesn't allow for racing any sooner. I am told I did not cry when the loud cars went by so they took me to the pits to see my Dad. Yes Dad was a driver. I did not cry in the loud pits where cars were close and fist fights were closer.

I am a spectator now as I was then. I assure you I watch so many more racing organizations than NASCAR. I cannot list them all. When the weather breaks, I live about 45 minutes from three race tracks and I visit them all as they all three race on different nights. Usually, about halfway through the racing season, I am recognized by a driver or a pit crew member and am asked to help work on one car or another. Of course you realize that race cars are built to be worked upon and not complicated like the cars we all drove to the track. I am no genius.

My point is that I feel auto racing is part of my heritage, part of my culture. It (auto racing) has gathered my extended family for years now; to see various races. It is woven deeply into the Gaskill family as a whole. All redneck jokes aside.
It is one of the few things I have let of Dad. He has passed.

The smell of clutches and brake pads burning just gets me GOING!!

I collect decks of vintage playing cards. If you think tracking down a first edition book in fine condition can be tough, try searching for a deck of playing cards from 1900 with all 52 cards not creased or bent PLUS jokers PLUS the original box. My oldest deck is from the 1880's. Some descks go for thousands of dollars. Just like with books, I could never go that high. But the artwork on some of the older decks is amazing.
