As far as the lack of direwolves, the only thing I can think of is that animals can be extremely hard to work with and can also be pretty costly.

Now, it doesn't look like the have really spared any expense with filming this show, so I'm not really sure why they aren't showing them more.

The last episode was pretty damn good. Nice to see Drogo get more than four words in.

Drogo....talk Dothraki to me. Oh yes.

I really liked the episode. I was all "Oh shit!" at the end, even though I knew it was coming. I'm also still totally digging the guy playing Sam, he is bringing so much to that role.

I wasn't fond of Sam at first, but he's growing on me (lol).

I was wondering - when ADoD finally rolls around, will everyone be picturing the characters as played by the actors while reading the novels ?

Also - epic win on casting Charles Dance as Tywin. He perfectly embodies the steely intensity needed for the role. That scene with Jaime in the beginning was perfect.

Oh, and any episode sans-Dinklage is automatically docked 25 points.

That ending was shot perfectly. It's kind of fun not knowing what's going to happen. I just started reading Game of Thrones and I'm loving every syllable of it. It's also pretty cool to already have faces to put with the names. You guys are right though, they're not showing the direwolves enough. It seems like each character is defined by the unique relationship they have with their wolf.

I will finish watching the first season before finishing the first book. After that, I'm not sure what I'm going to do. It's going to be pretty hard to hold off on reading the books and wait for the next season to air on HBO.

Last night's episode was just epic. GRRM should write them all!

    - I loved Robb tonight. It was nice to see him shine. I especially liked the scene where he decided to call his Bannermen and then the shot looking out the window and seeing all the ravens taking flight.

    - SYRIO. Man that was awesome, taking out all the Lannister guards with just a wooden sword. And now, i'm even more convinced that Syrio is still alive, especially with what seemed to be a hint from GRRM, with the whole "What do we say to the God of Death?...Not today" part. I think Syrio could have easily disabled Meryn Trent, even with a broken sword. His eyes were exposed, etc...

    - Lots of direwolves tonight. They are so obviously dogs and move like dogs, but I'm just happy to see them at this point, so I won't complain. (Although it does annoy me that Ghost is making so much noise).

    - Khal Drogo is a badass. Enough said.

    - I really liked Sansa in this episode. I think the actress did a wonderful job at the end conveying how scared she was while pleading before Joffery, yet still showing some strength and courage. She is still a Stark afterall.

    - How awesomely intimidating was the Hound in tonight's episode?

    - Jon about to knife the shit out of Ser Allister.

    - Jon's fight with the white walker wasn't nearly as scary as it was in the books.

    - I read online earlier that the phrase “The Full Monty” can now be replaced with “The Full Hodor.” But for real, if we are going to keep having full frontal male nudity, can we please get some naked Jason Momoa screen time? Please?

    - Shagga was great. As was Tyrion in all his scenes.

    - Arya's first kill!

Best episode to date. I, too, was so happy to see the wolves get screen time. How can Syrio not be alive? He is the First Sword of Braavos, all those shrieks and screams most certainly did not come from him.

I feel Syrio is alive. When they cut away from him, I thought I heard the clang of a metal sword hitting the ground. I could be wrong.

    nuff said.

Also, about your Syrio conversation, remember what happened to Pig Boy Pate? I got an idea about Mr Meryn Trant.

I loved the Twins and Walder Frey was great in his pervy old man self. I don't know if I will be able to look at Filch the same in the last two Harry Potters. I hope Sansa gave herself a concussion when she fell.

No, it wasn't. This brings up a dilemma for me - some of the scarier/more high fantasy bits in the novels have actually lost a lot of their flash in the transition from books to small screen. I'm worried that some of the other high concept bits (especially the dragon scenes) are going to be downscale and end up feeling somewhat ... mundane.

    Spoiler:
How he was killed by a faceless man who then took his place? If the Faceless Men have magic that allows them to change their faces at will, as we've read in the books (the Kindly Man showed Arya he could, remember) then why should Trant be Trant at all?

I've heard that theory before, Bruno. However:

    Spoiler:
Would Syrio in Trant's form really beat up on Sansa as much and as brutally as Joffery demands? Or is he just doing what he has to do to get by in that form?

Damn. This show/book really doesn't pull any punches. I heard that Martin isn't your typical storyteller, but that was something you rarely see on TV and movies. It shows that nobody is safe.

Wow, I'm really bummed and angry right now. I want blood. I hope they kill them all.

=O I forgot you're watching first. Were you totally shocked?

In other musings, I don't like the Mata Hari version of Shae and am curious why she is being portrayed this way instead of a common camp trollop.

Peter Dinklage did a great job conveying Tyrion's story of his wife. It is so sad and reminds me of just what a fucking douche Tywin Lannister is.
There's one hole in every revolution, large or small. And it's one word long.. people. No matter how big the idea they all stand under, people are small and weak and cheap and frightened. It's people that kill every revolution.

Yup, Martin isn't very conventional when it comes to certain storytelling aspects. As you've found out, he's not big on the cliched last-minute-rescue stance, and for that I applaud him (although I was really pissed off when I read that too).

My brother is watching the series without having read the novels, and he refused to believe what he saw , "No ! The executioner missed, right ? That wasn't his blood! I don't want to watch this anymore, fuck this."

Dinklage has surpassed all of my expectations. He is Tyrion. I'm convinced that Martin wrote that role specifically for him.

And I was so against Dinklage. All I could think about was him as the nursemaid to the lobsterclaw baby on Nip/Tuck. But, as Ferny said, he IS Tyrion.

Think of the Faceless Men as Samurai or Ninjas, if you will. Duty, Duty, Duty. They send you to do a job, you do anything you have to, anything at all, to get that job accomplished. Faceless Men don't fail, or hesitate, or hold back. Just my opinion.
