I love most of Simmons' books. I read HYPERION and could barely finish it. Started on the next one and gave up after about 50 pages. I'm just not a sci-fi guy, I guess.
Can-anyone tell me if this auction is a good deal at $50?

Yes. It's a good deal, as long as it keeps that price.

Are we congratulating them for the books other people do too now, Patrick?
Dan Simmons has a really great looking sig.
If it was published by CD, I would not get it for another year or so. I ordered this a year after some of the CD titles I'm waiting on.
Although in CDs defense they have gotten a little better
Subterranean is publishing Dan Simmon's novella The Guiding Nose of Ulfant Banderoz

Sub Press recently turned down the opportunity to do a limited of Summer Of Night with bonus material (Banished Dreams, Watching The Presidential Debates In Elm Haven) as well as a limited of Dan's forthcoming novel The Abominable. Another publisher is in converations with Dan's agent to see if something can be worked out. Hopefully it will happen as SON is deserving of a nice limited edition.
I thoroughly enjoyed SON. Bonus material would be great. Are they available elsewhere?
Banished Dreams is a chapbook published in 1990 by Roadkill Press consisting of excerpts from an early draft of Summer Of Night. The dream sequences that are included in the chapbook along with the subplots that arose from them were cut from the published version. I haven't checked lately but you could probably find it on eBay or ABE.
As for Watching The Presidential Debates In Elm Haven you can read it at Dan's website. Just click on the News button and select "Message From Dan". Once there click on the index and select October 2008 and you will find part 1. Part 2 can be found in the November 2008 message. Watching The Debates is an excellent coda to SON.
Simmons posted that he offered to do the artwork for that limited but the money SubPress offered for it was, according to Simmons, equal to the ammount he received for his first professional short story sale.
Dan Simmons' new novel has publication date now:
October 1st, 2013.

From Amazon:
Looks like I'll be getting that one. It's 1925, and the desire to summit Mt. Everest has reached a fever-pitch after the disappearance of George Mallory the year before. A young man and his climbing friends, eager to take their shot at the top, accept funding from a grieving mother whose son fell to his death on Mallory's expedition. She is not convinced he is dead, and she wants them to bring him back alive.
Once on the mountain, the climbers discover that the young man's death was no accident--and something he was carrying with him could and will change the course of the 20th century. They also learn that they are not alone on Everest. Someone else--or something else--is up there. And it is stalking them.
A bone-chilling and exquisitely researched story of historical high-climbing suspense, THE ABOMINABLE is Dan Simmons at his best, and it will thrill the many readers who made The Terror a bestseller.
