1 & 2 were easy, 3-5 in no paticular order!

    1. The Stand (one of the best books of it's kind)
    2. It (scared the crap out of me when I was a kid)
    3. Pet Semetary (my first SK book)
    4. Insomnia
    5. Misery (loved the movie as well)

    1. The Stand ( we actually read it in English AP and studied social decline)
    2. IT ( "Hiya Georgie)
    3. The Shining (Redrum)
    4. Misery ( The operation was called hobbling..)
    5, Dreamcatcher (SSDD)

Dreamcatcher would be #3 but the ending seemed a little rushed

    The Stand
    Salem's Lot
    The Talisman
    Black House
    Insomnia

Eh, I hate making top lists, but I'll do my best.
Well, naming THE top three is "easy" but putting them in order kills me.
    -The Stand
    -The Talisman
    -It

It doesn't get any easier after that, maybe I'll just shuffle two names from my fantastic books list and pretend I like them more than the others.

    -The Shining
    -Insomnia

Aarggh, forgive me you other great books in the sad row, didn't mean to hurt you!

So many of the short stories are super-great. #1 will always be

    1. The Last Rung on the Ladder

four more? Wow, how to choose...

    The Monkey
    Quitters, Inc.
    1408
The Ballad of the Fleible Bullet
    The Raft

(and I reserve the right to swap a couple once I go through the TOC of Skeleton Crew and Night Shift to jog my memory--like to add The Ledge or The Mangler, or...)

    Novellas:
Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Reemption
    Apt Pupil
    The Body
    Secret window, Secret garden
    The Mist

    1 The Boogeyman
    Freakiest short story ever

    2 Strawberry spring
    3 I am the Doorway
    4 Everythings eventual
    5 Apt Pupil
Boogeyman did make me move to the other side of my bed, there was a closet...And I dont do that, at least I didn't before I read that. And to think, it was just a few pages. Stephen King is kinda a wordslinger if you think about it.
My top 5..had to think, could have made a top 15 list...

    1) Battleground
    2) The Mist
    3) The Ballad of the Flexible Bullet
    4) You know they've got a hell of a band
    5) Jaunt

    Hi

this thread has made me want ti re-red all the short stories as well as DT. Mine would be:

    1) 1408 - It was so creepy! A fantastic take on the haunted room story I think. The film didin't and couldn't compare. I love the sens of growing unease when things which are not outright scary start to go wrong...

    2) Crouch End for the same reasons above I have read this so many times

    3) Hearts in Atlantis

    4) The lowmen

    5) Children of the corn

There was a TV series on awhile back where they televised Knightmares and Dreamscapes. It wasnt any near as good as reading the stories but not a terrible effort.

    1) The Mist
    2) The Jaunt (haunting, love it)
    3) The Road Virus Heads North
    4) Word Processor of the Gods
    5) Survivor Type

Rage -- is that a novel? I know it read it in a collection. Maybe that one can get an honorary mention. And The Long Walk. Those are both probably novels though.

    In no particular order...

    - Eyes of The Dragon
    - The Stand
    - The Green Mile
    - The Talisman/Black House (because I can't miss one out!)
    - Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption

I really wanted to add in Firestarter and Carrie but I suppose that would defeat the whole object of having a top 5.

Then there's The Long Walk, The Shining........... Arrrggghhhhhhhh brain ache!!!

Here are my top 5, in order:
    1. THE STAND (both versions, unable to stop reading once started)
    2. FIRESTARTER
    3. THE GREEN MILE
    4. MISERY
    5. CUJO
The only DT that would even make my top 10 list would be THE GUNSLINGER. (I was extremely dissapointed in the last 3 volumes especially)
LISEY'S STORY, TOM GORDON, COLORADO KID and BLACK HOUSE would be WAY on the bottom! (Especially LISEY'S STORY, had a very hard time reading that book)

That's cool. Not exactly the way that I see things myself, but it's entirely respectable a top 5. Your tastes are quite literary. How did you like Bag of Bones?
My only big issue would be putting down Black House. I enjoyed the other three you dismiss, but none were what I consider great. I even see your point about DT, except that I think that The Waste Lands is also most worthy as an individual novel.

Oh wow, I don't know that i can do this... only 5? Ouch will try. It would be easier to list the ones I don't like.

    In NO perticular order:
    It
    The Stand
    The Talisman
    Insomnia
    The Green Mile

After those 5 it gets almost impossible to seperate them out into ones I like more then the others.

Did not enjoy so much: The tommyknockers, Das Macabre (didn't even make it though that one), The girl who loved tom gordon: this was on my hated list until I read it again lately and it has moved up. This list gets hard too, I enjoy his stories and writing too much I guess.
