I am SO annoyed at ebay just now, by principle
A few weeks ago, I did put an old ipod on ebay. I did not know whether it works or not, given I dont have a wire to plug it, so I have put that explicitly in the product page
A buyer made me an offer (half of my original selling price, total = 50e shipping included), but figured why not, given I was being fair in my description and didnt know whether it worked.
As a background, a few weeks before I sold an old british phone. The buyer complained it didnt work, and I didnt put a similar disclosure in the selling page, so I offered a partial refund because I thought it was my mistake. He accepted, case closed.
Back to the ipod : the buyer either purchased knowingly it may not worked, or didnt read the description and went for it. Didnt ask any questions. Bought it. Recieved it. Complains it doesnt work. Opened a case with ebay.
I explain everything, and also notice something. I have 300 ratings on ebay, an accout since about 18 years. 100% ratings.
The buyer has an account since 10 years (ok), but 0% positive ratings... which is suspicious as fuck !
Ebay tells me that I have to PAY for a return shipping label because the buyer says the product is not "as described". Which pisses me off
I dont want to lose money because the buyer FUCKED UP.
And it seems I dont have any choice
I dont care about the ipod, nor the little money, but I care about the principle. I try to be fair and square, to do everything right. And here it's clearly the buyer's responsbility...
I am SOOOO fucking annoyed by it

Ebay is best avoided when selling things. The seller has all the rights-even when they are obviously wrong. That combined with ridiculous fees, and (In the US) the taxable implications of each sale price make it no longer a great way to sell things. I haven't sold anything on ebay in years, and hope to keep it that way.
Herbertwest (reanimator),
Call ebay. You're more likely to get a positive response from a customer representative than the automated system.
I exchanged with a couple of customer reps by email.... they basically said that because the buyer claims it wasn't the condition it was described it, he was in his right.
Even if I wrote....
So, this morning ebay sent me an email saying that they reimbursed the full amount to the buyer and they'll charge me for that amount. Great....!!! ...
I still challenge their decision because i disagree with it

According to an email from paypal, they'll start charging 1% for transfering money from your account to your bank (I think)
At least in a few countries including France
Is it the case in the USA?

There has always been a small fee (for me, anyway) to "instant transfer" from PP to bank account. Recently I wanted to transfer about $80, and the fee was something like $1.75. I'm not sure if it's capped at some point if you wish to transfer a large sum.
HOWEVER, I have always had the option for the "1-3 day processing" transfer, which is absolutely 100% free. I always choose this option. My experience is that the transfer completes in 1 day (or less) anyway.

Looks like the IRS is scrapping the $600 threshold for receiving a 1099K this tax year, and reverting back to the $20,000 and 200 transaction rule. Purportedly next year they will have a $5,000 threshold, on the way towards he goal of $600.
Someone may have already bitched about this.....but I just discovered it and want to rant.
Ebay is now collecting sales tax from buyers (which I knew about).....and they are baseing their fees off of the sale of your item, the shipping, and the tax!!
I just sold a book for $635.....ebay collected $60 dollars in tax from the buyer and send that to the govt....and then charged me a fee of 15% on that tax ($9).
It is bad enough they charge you a fee on the shipping you collect....but on the tax they collect too???!!!

That's ridiculous. It's ultimately going to be the downfall of ebay (although it will take some time to topple the "King").
Another reason I haven't sold on ebay in years.
I could be mistaken, but possibly ebay charged the buyer with the effective tax rate where they live, then charged you with the effective tax rate where you live having conducted the sale. The difference between tax rates means you get charged the extra amount (presuming your county/state sales tax rate is higher.
Ebay took their 14.95% bite out of the the total of the sale price, shipping, and tax collected.
$14.95% of $60.17 is $9.00.
So as an ebay buyer, I have to now pay sales tax (thanks US Govt)......and as an ebay seller, I get charged a fee on the sales tax collected from the buyer.
