Jake Chambers
Eddie Dean
Oy
Sheemi Ruiz
Susan Delgado
Gabriel Deschain
Randall Flagg
Father Callahan
Definitely Jake. I have two boys of my own and the thought of a loss of a child is emotionally too much for me to bear.
Dragline : Nothin'. A handful of nothin'. You stupid mullet head. He beat you with nothin'. Just like today when he kept comin' back at me - with nothin'.
Luke : Yeah, well, sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand.
Its actually a toss for me between Jake and Oy's. I love Oy for some bizarre reason. But Jakes was the hardest, especially with the way Oy mourned him. Lets face it Roland is one of the greatest characters written. People can say many things about King but they all agree he is the master of character development! Hell after The Stand came out and for a few years it was required reading in more then one class at C.U. (University of Colorado Boulder) because of his mastery of character development. But Roland surpasses all Kings characters.
When they tried to save King's life and they were about to collide with the van Roland new one would die and Roland swore it would be him and not Jake. He was willing to sacrifice himself, the DT and the multi-verse for his son this time around. After the accident when he saw Jake, before he realized the extent of his injuries he saw King laying there all mangled and hoped it would be King Gan be damned instead of Jake. I believe Roland had almost succeed in his development in this iteration of looping. So you not only felt the loss of Jake but you felt the sorrow of Roland as well not to mention Oy's sorrow. That triple set was killer to me emotionally. Especially as mentioned before, so dang close to the death of Eddie. It hit all the harder when Oy did finally join up with Roland after Jakes burial.
"It's his eyes, Roland thought. They were wide and terrible, the eyes of a dragon in human form" - Roland seeing the Crimson King for the first time.
"When the King comes and the Tower falls, sai, all such pretty things as yours will be broken. Then there will be darkness and nothing but the howl of Discordia and the cries of the can toi" - From Song of Susannah
Actually Randall Flagg's death was very very hard for me and I'm still miffed about it because he as AMAZING in the Stand... or at least SK's interpretation of him was... He was real to me, and them killing him so easily really made me mad.. I mean look what it took to get "rid" of him in The Stand? I'll leave it at that because I don't want a spoiler thread about the stand in here..

Besides Roland Oy is by far my fav character. To a lot of non-DT fans I talk to about some of the DT artwork I'm working on its strange to them that you could like a strange critter over human characters. I tell them to read the books and they'd understand, sadly they are just content on harassing me. Hence the reason why I said bizzare.
The only death to make me cry was that of Susan Delgado's.
The most dramatic thing about Oy's death was that it was near the end.
I feel even more sorry for everyone killed by Mordred.
doghouse is always empty
I voted Jake... his 19th vote
Oh man, I cried like a baby too when Susan died. But then I also cried for everyone else too.
We are not all heartless meanies like Monte.
I am Daenerys Stormborn and I will take what is mine. With fire and blood.
Susan = annoying little tramp
No one deserves death, dear Letti.
Only fictional silly girls named Susan.
poor poor Susan
Roland would have understood.
Love your sig and pic.
Susans death was built up in a heartbreaking way.
Her death was with Walters death the unfairest of them all.
Basically the whole 4th book is a love story, but only Susan got punished for her love.
Roland got punished too, but not for his love if you ask me. It was because he bugged the witch.
If Roland died there too it would be fair.
doghouse is always empty
For me, this was a hard poll. I was torn between who to say was the hardest for me. Eddie, Jake or Oy. I loved them all. But since I had to choose, I chose Oy because of the way he went, trying to protect Roland. And also because I love animals more than I do people.
Fair???
Roland would have understood.
I felt that Oy's was the hardest mainly due tpo the fact that most people, not all, have the ability to defend themselves to a certain degree. In the case of Oy, he didn't stand much of a chance against Mordred, and knew he didn't, but still he put Roland's life before his own. The reason that it truly is the hardest is the fact that he didn't want to be there. He sacrificed his life because of a last request by Jake. He would have been more than content to die at Jakes grave site.
You are so right, Storyslinger. I always loved Oy but in the last book I fell in love with him.
Roland would have understood.
Don't forget Roland's sorrow, either..
Roland would have understood.
Roland was second in sorrow felt, but his was more of regret. He felt that it was his fault that Jake died, because it was supposed to be him that feel before the van. He blamed himself, but it was really sai King's fault that Roland wasn't able to stop Jake. I was gald however, that Roland was able to cry at Jake's death. It showed how far he had come since the first death that plagued him. Not once, since the death of susan had Roland showed emotion for the loss of someone. Had he not cried, I believe I would have come to truly hate the man.
