Equifax has pretty much confirmed that those who went with the $125 option, won’t be getting anywhere close to that in the settlement.

Not surprising. The settlement was/is a consumer ripoff. I'd be surprised if those (including myself) who opted for the $125 possibility, end up getting $12.50.

They missed a decimal in the first round of communications, its $1.25 not $125.

Which is exactly why I went with the 10 years of credit monitoring. The article did say that Equifax is going to send emails allowing people to change their minds and do the credit monitoring instead.

The settlement is ridiculous. They should have made them set aside $3 billion dollars. That would pay 24 million people $125 each, and that is still way short of those affected. $3 billion to Equifax is a one time quarterly charge against earnings, and a nuisance fee. The $31 million dollars is laughable. About the equivalent of you or I getting a $10 parking ticket.

Exactly. Gives them no incentive to be any better in the future. Just a "cost of doing business"

I already get free credit monitoring from being a Discover card holder. Plus according to the article:

Starting next year, all Americans will be entitled to six free Equifax credit reports each year for seven years. This can help you to monitor for any illegal activity. All U.S. consumers are entitled to get free identity theft recovery services for the next seven years.

So there's really no reason for me to not choose the cash option. Even if it ends up only being $12.50 instead of $125.

I simply froze all of my credit reports/usage through the three major agencies. I don't see any need to unfreeze it in the near future.
