when a seller is listing books for sale, what does 'thus' mean in the title? I always see "signed 1st thus... blah blah blah" never really understood what it meant.

It means it's the first printing of a new edition of a book. So, for example, the illustrated edition of 'Salem's Lot would be a First Edition Thus, but clearly not a first edition of 'Salem's Lot. Even a paperback edition could be labeled thus, since it is a different format than the original hardcover.

Can a signature be accompanied by a date and still be considered flat signed, or would that put it in the inscription category?

In my opinion, that would still put it flat signed. Inscribed are to specific people IMHO. I have at least 3 in that category. I have 5 flat signed, including a proof. I don't think mine have dates though.

A signature with a date is a MORE valuable flatsigned book.

So I just purchased Stephen King's Battleground S/L from Gauntlet press. When I got it yesterday I noticed the number was missing, so I contacted Barry at Gauntlet and he said he forgot in his haste. He said to print "111" in blue or black ink.

If I do this, would this be something I need to disclose if/when I sell it?

I am surprised they have not sold out a print run of only 125 after all these years. (BTW, this is not listed in the catalog, only the Lettered is listed).

I had this happen once with a book I ordered from CD. I was advised to place "PC" on the number line as I believe it was from a grab bag. It felt strange to do.

I've been asked to do it, and also heard of it happening, across a number of publishers (PS, CD, Sub Press)
