WANTED
Signed 1st Edition of Storm of The Century (Paperback)
It's legit!
Honestly, no one to blame (too late now) but myself, but I'm still pissed off. Pulled a 1st/1st "The Dark Half" off of the shelf and upon very close scrutiny, there is an owner crimp/stamp on a page near the front-and a marking or two on the FFE. For whatever reasons, I purchased the book 25+ years ago when I was more easily fooled.
As someone who is most definitely not an SK autograph expert, this thread is always very interesting to read! Especially when there are disagreements.
There are definitely signatures out there that are legitimate but ugly, as well as signatures that are fake but are perfectly executed. Given the number of signed books that have been evaluated in this thread alone, it's highly likely that some legitimately signed books have been labeled illegitimate, and some good fakes have been given a thumbs up.
TO BE CLEAR, I am not denigrating the skills of the posters here who have seen hundreds or thousands of signed books. This is a very important thread and people who are buying signed books and not consulting this thread are at a significant disadvantage.
What ups the ante is that SK occupies an interesting place in the market - he has signed tens of thousands (if not hundreds of thousands) of books, both S/L and in-person, over the course of more than 40 years. His signature has changed over time, and the date of the signature and copy of the book are both hugely important. Signed copies of The Outsider are going for $1000+ because he didn't do a signing tour, while some other signed books fetch ~$100 because they are more commonly signed. The same signed book can have a 10x difference in price because it was signed earlier rather than later.
I think the wiki post with the signatures over time is super cool.
Anyway, I find all of this very interesting, so thanks TDT community, for, among other things, keeping me highly entertained
There is no doubt that some good signatures are considered possible fakes, and that some fakes are considered good.
I've seen King sign books that I would question if I didn't know better.
The Wiki is interesting in part because some of the signatures from signed limiteds look kind of sketchy. That just goes to show you that verifying a King signature is no easy task.
The best we can do is collect what makes us happy. I won't be happy if there is a doubt in my mind.
"One day you're going to figure out that everything they taught you was a lie."
Could I get some help with this signature? I’ve worked with the seller before, but I’m hesitant with this one because it seems cramped.

"One day you're going to figure out that everything they taught you was a lie."
Not thrilled with that one.
I concur with the group....I think it's a "better than most" forgery.
