I would not join such an organization for 3 simple reasons:
1) I don't have a problem, I can quit any time
B) I wouldn't join any organization that would have me as a member
iii) I would only join if the 1 year anniversary chip was a limited edition signed by Stephen King.

"A real limited edition, far from being an expensive autograph stapled to a novel, is a treasure. And like all treasures do, it transforms the responsible owner into a caretaker, and being a caretaker of something as fragile and easily destroyed as ideas and images is not a bad thing but a good one...and so is the re-evaluation of what books are and what they do that necessarily follows." - Stephen King
In cases like The Stand it is easy to argue that the Lettered shouldn’t be worth more than the S/L, as they are the same book but I do put more value on the Lettered. That being said I have a Lettered Stand and have no regrets buy it. With Danse Macabre, even though it’s the same book there is a difference between the S/L and the Lettered that justifies a premium price. Unlike The Stand, were you could buy the Lettered, with Danse Macabre the Lettered was for private distribution. So you should feel good about your Lettered DM and congratulations on that purchase.

Depends on the book, but in most cases the Lettered edition is made with finer materials and may have extras the trade and s/l don't have. In all cases they are worth more because there are less of them. Typically the limitation of a lettered is 52 at most (with double letters, AA, BB, etc.), whereas a s/l can be in the thousands.
In the case of Dance Macabre, the Lettered and S/L were identical, but there were only 15 lettered copies so they are inherently worth more simply because there are less of them.
The Regulators is perhaps the finest example of what a publisher can do with a Lettered edition

I have a funny feeling that one (all of them) are going to creep up a bit.
Predictions are like assholes-everyone has one. But I'd be very surprised if the "Steve" 'Salem's Lot doesn't shoot way north of $2K. Most flaws to the book can be fixed by an expert book restorer. One might need to sacrifice another book, but two could make a beautiful one.
I should try to snag it, have a great jacket to replace.......
decisions---decisions.......
