If I had a copy of that book and I knew that I could get $5K for it, I'd sell it for $5K.

In fact, I'd sell it for $500.

But - as others have said, it's strictly irrational exuberance right now - it's a $150 sort of item, if that, once it settles down.

I agree with you... I wanted a copy... and I would pay $100... I would pay $150...

I bet a few weeks from now when one shows up for $150, you'll be like "eh, pass." It's only expensive because it's new and unique - but they'll be around. And, like RF said, it's just a condensed book not even written by SK.

It IS written by King.
From the two pages I've seen, the words are exactly from The Waste Lands. The artist is Ned Dameron (The Waste Lands). The lady they hired to be "Beryl Evans" is an actress.
Great promo stunt, but not so funny since it isn't April 1.

Seriously, why doesn't everyone get their panties in a bunch about the asking price of an item of this nature? 1st world problems I guess. A non-personalize copy would be worth more to me personally.

I'm shocked, but you never know how these things will go.
With only 150 given out, and probably a >95% retention rate, there are maybe 10 that will be put up for sale. There certainly are more than 10 people that want one. There are already 9 different people bidding on this one.

I honestly don't get the fuss over this so please, guys, feel free to correct the slow kid here but: 1. It wasn't written by King but adapted from The Wastelands, correct? 2. A hired actress scribbled "the author's" name in the book along with whomever's was standing there to get it signed.

Don't get me wrong; it would be cool to own but I'd like to hear some of our super King collectors (Bob) thoughts on this. Someone is about to get paid regardless so good for them. I'm going to see RF's bid and raise it that it goes for a cool grand.

You are attempting to be rational. That was your first mistake. Collectors aren't rational.

So I'll attempt a rational explanation.

This is a promotional item for the movie. There is a limitation for the SDCC version of 150. It is of interest to various groups beyond book collectors. This is the first one up for auction on ebay. Some people have to have one; some people have more money than sense.

I would have bid $500 (or more) but think I will wait. My idea is to secure a copy (cheaper), and get Ned Dameron to both sign it and remarque it, therefore making it truly unique.

I'd actually really like this item as it's such a central part of the DT world. Regardless of whether it has King's name on it. it's 'official' and canon. I'd also go about $150-200 but over a THOUSAND bucks??? I don't think so.
