Congratulations, John_and_Yoko!You are correct, he wasn't technically an imaginary friend...everyone other than Big Bird thought he was. The fear was that little children would think adults wouldn't believe them...as they didn't believe Big Bird about Snuffy...concerning possible real-world situations. So Snuffy was finally "seen" by the adults...and Big Bird was vindicated. Thanks for playing.

And you're right--it was, I believe, instances of child predators, pedophilia, sexual abuse, something along those lines that prompted them to that decision.
(The other reason, of course, being they ran out of "you just missed him" jokes....)
