I don't know how they were distributed....whether by subscription or just for sale locally on campus to students and professors. I once made contact with a professor at Syracuse University who had a copy. I offered him $400 for it but he refused my offer. I was extremely fortunate to see one listed on ABE several months later for $20 or so in 2010. I consider it one of my best and luckiest finds. Ari did have similar luck a few months ago.

Interesting! Was that obtained from the Guernsey's auction in 1987? If not, when? Is it typed on a typewriter or on a word processor? How can you tell it is original? Interested collectors demand answers!

I got it for the same amount if I'm not wrong. Saw the email alert and bought it within two minutes or even less. I kept on checking my emails later every 5 minutes to receive the confirmation.

Mike...you REALLY need to show pics of your collection. That's a super interesting item!

By the way, Alan, your want list is pretty impressive. Do you have all the other lettered editions published?

No, I was asking a serious question. With word processor manuscripts it is very difficult (impossible?) to tell if a manuscript is original or copied. The first printed copy? Or one of ten or more? There are tell-tale signs, of course, like hand corrections done by the author and/or supporting documentation. The days of the manual typewriter and carbon copies is, unfortunately, gone forever.

    Gday guys,
I'm chasing a few replacement books that were lost in a house move. Nothing too exciting,

I've based my budget on stephenkingcollector.com pricing. I'm not sure how current it is. I'm hoping to buy a few off one seller to combine post. The postage is appalling to Australia, coupled with the worst exchange rate in 12 years it makes it pretty tricky, and tightens the budget considerably!
Pm me if you have anything here that your keen to sell,or you know of someone who might.I've been very fortunate to meet some great folks here already and have purchased off 4 members.
    Thanks guys.

Some of Tomas' prices are a little out of date. Expect to pay a lot more for a fine copy of Pet Semetary, fine copies are hard to find and will be $60 - $90
Also the AE DT books are also on the rise, $125 - $150 is probably about right.
"A real limited edition, far from being an expensive autograph stapled to a novel, is a treasure. And like all treasures do, it transforms the responsible owner into a caretaker, and being a caretaker of something as fragile and easily destroyed as ideas and images is not a bad thing but a good one...and so is the re-evaluation of what books are and what they do that necessarily follows." - Stephen King

Non-King but some here might be able to help me out.

Years ago I had a massive small press horror magazine/fanzine/newsletter collection that I'm trying to rebuild. James Beach is delivering back what didn't sell...which is still about 200-300 magazines. If you have any horror mags that you're looking to get rid of, let me know! No monster mags or movie mags but horror fiction magazine titles like Grue, Scream Factory, Eldritch Tales, Crypt of Cthulhu, 2AM, Deathrealm, Dark Regions, etc. (the titles are endless) and non-fiction titles like Necrofile, Studies in Weird Fiction, Afraid, HWA newsletters, British Fantasy newsletters, etc. Looking to build up the collection and possibly work on a historical online or print project with them. If you have any, please let me know!

Fairly new member, but Im enjoying the wealth of information on these boards.

While I don't rate anywhere close to what many of you have, I do consider myself a collector and have a few simple items on my want list.

Looking for hardcover editions of the latest Viking reissues of The Gunslinger, Drawing of the Three and The Wastelands. I just want to replace my paperback copies that I got back in 1998 (still have the slipcase they came with!) with some nice hardcovers.

The Gunslinger pops up on eBay sometimes but I think the price is ridiculous. Especially considering what some of the Grant editions can be acquired for.

    Thanks!

The Gunslinger had a 10000 print run. The others did not.. the price you see is pretty accurate for the most part. If you can buy a mint 1st for under $800.. do it.

I think the OP is referring to the Viking Gunslinger not the Grant one...
... This is harder to find than most would think. I believe David @ Betts has one signed by Whelan for sale for $90

Edit: apologies that copy has already been sold...

Welcome over here, TD! Haven't been over there too long myself. I was lucky and got all my Viking reissues off one collector slipcased. Can't remember exactly what I paid for 'em but seemed fair and they were in NF+ to Mint.

Are you saying the HWA newsletters I have are worth something? I wonder if I even kept them...
They're worth something to me! Not worth a ton, but I'd like to have a set again. I used to have tons of them but sold them years ago. Lots of great bits of non-fiction from some great writers and folks from the horror biz.

Exactly. I just want to replace my Viking paperbacks with the Viking hardcovers.

And right - it seems for a mass produced reissue, The Gunslinger seems to demand a premium price.

I'll keep looking - I'm bound to stumble upon someone selling the first three for a fair price, right?

... This is harder to find than most would think. I believe David @ Betts has one signed by Whelan for sale for $90

Edit: apologies that copy has already been sold...

Absolutely- last year I picked up all 4 Viking books in F/F condition. I paid less than than $30 each. It took a lot of patience, searching and questions to eBay sellers that listed without much info!
