    Default Wheel of Time

We don't appear to have a thread aready for Robert Jordan's "Wheel of Time" series. (If I'm wrong, someone can merge please).

I just got the new Book 12 (The gathering Storm) a couple of days ago and so far it's very good.
    Anyone else reading it?
What's your impression of Brandon Sanderson so far - is he keeping true to the series? personally I can see the change in style but he's doing well enough with it - well enough to keep me reading anyway!
Of course Jordan had a lot of work done & notes made before he died, so the main events will have been well documented I would think, but the actual writing is still mostly by Sanderson i expect.

Also, what do you think of that "final book" now growing into 3 Books? (personally, I think it's great!)

I stareted listening to this series about a year ago and have gottne through 8+ books. I started working form home and my listening time has greatly reduced. I do like the series - they is so much to it and to try and register as you read.

I started it a LONG time ago and stopped at about book 5. When I heard he passed and that Brandon would be finishing it, I figured I'd listen to it all again. I finished Book 11 about a month ago and have the audio for 12, but I don't want to start it until after UtD. It's an ENORMOUS book and would take me much longer than 2 weeks to listen to it all.

As far as the final "book" being 3 books, I don't know yet. With this first part being as long as it is, I'm not sure how they could have possibly fit it into a single volume. Then again, when I get done with it, I'll be able to give my opinion on whether it was filled with meaningless fluff for the sole purpose of raising the page count, or not.

Tell me when Tarmon Gai'don is finally coming. They publish all the books here in TWO (or, gasp, even in three!) parts. It's 12 something books so far? We have 25 books here. urgh. I don't remember when I stopped reading them, but I'd love to start all over again when the series has finished. Matrim Cauthon and Perrin Aybara

I'm roughly about 1/3 of the way thru Book 12 now. Very good so far, and no wasted pages - all good relevant stuff.
I honestly think even had Jordan lived to write it himself he'd NEVER have pulled it all together into one final volume.
Sanderson's style is a bit crisper or more abrupt maybe in spots, and his language differs (sometimes i catch myself thinking "..Rand (or Perrin etc..) wouldn't say that..."), but all-in-all it's reading very well for me.

Should add here that Wheel of Time is my 12-yr-old son's (Mark) favourite series - he's read it a good few times (but I got dibs on Book 12 first!!). he's now reading Donaldson's "Chronicles of Thomas Covenant" and says that's the best Fantasy he's ever read (I'd agree with him - but NOTHING comes before LotR!)

I haven't read the final Chronicles yet - I'll wait till all four books are out.

I'm really considering reading this series. The only thing remotely holding me back right now is the length. Once I start reading it, I won't be able to read anything else until I'm caught up with the most recently published book. I'm also debating if I should read this first or The Chronicles of Amber first. I've heard good things about both.

So...what are everyone's opinions on the Wheel of Time?

I like them but I have only read about half of them. I got kind of bored about halfway through book 7 and took a break. I have never made it back to them.

You have to read The Name of the Wind before you start this.

I'm going to, since it's just one book and I won't be able to stop once I start.

I'm wondering if I should do a Dark Tower re-read first, though.

I am currently going through a very slow re-read. My goal is to be done by the time the final book is released - probably around the end of this year or early next year. I'm on book four at the moment...

I really do enjoy this series. They get long, yes, and they certainly drag....but, IMO, the good parts are so good that they cover the bad well enough for me think it worthwhile to read 800+ pages for each book.

I may be a bit late for this but oh well XD. I love this series. Ive read the first book around 4 times now. I started to read it in the summer of 2009. Can't wait for the final book. Love the way the 13th book ended.

On another note does anyone know if there will be a film adaptation of the series? Anytime I look it up online I find that it says, yes on some sites and no on others, which confuses me greatly

Amber is good. Nowhere near the chore of WoT. You can breeze through Amber. Really you can just read the Corwin chronicles. That is only 5 books. That being said WoT is better. Way more involved though and can bog you down at times.
