Actually, it's not that difficult at all. My wife works for a credit card company and directly with a number of merchants. A product called 'Square' is available to anyone. It would just plug into David's phone, and will accept payments from mobile phones, iPads, etc. Their website is www.squareup.com. I have friends who run online stores who have Square, as well as another friend who runs a food-truck who swipes cards on her Square. Paypal is also easy to set up, and is widely accepted. It's easy enough for members here to sell books, so it shouldn't be any more complicated to set up for Betts. Plus, it removes the chance of someone with a fraudulent card trying to buy from David, so it removes a great deal of risk for him. When purchasing over the phone or via email, it's much easier to get away with fraud.
It's pretty rare to see merchants these days that only accept payments via phone or email. Expensive for them too, for that matter.
At Betts I do take PayPal if people ask...In return, I ask that people send as a Gift which saves me big fees (PayPal fees are higher than credit card fees). Most people happy to send as a Gift.

I understand and see Wiz's point. This is not his primary source of income, but giving up 1-3+% of his net is a big bite.
