The last time David sold this it went for $399. This time it went for $850.

Frankenstein S/L #23 - Fine Book, no tissue DJ, slipcase VG with tape marks on left side and a smudge; signed by Stephen King and Bernie Wrightson $999 original list - $399
Frankenstein S/L #23.....signed by Stephen King (he did an intro) AND Bernie Wrightson. Book itself is Fine....slipcase is Near Fine- with a tape residue mark on the front and back (see last two pictures) and tiny corner wear. - $850

I have my thoughts on the price paid for this book against the quality, but I will keep them to myself.

Ned is still working on the art for THE STAND, in fact. He's brainstorming ideas for the covers right now and his suggestions so far are awesome.

No question, Mr RT has great records....what he does NOT know if that I put sold on stuff but that does NOT necessarily mean it SOLD at that price...For instance, the Frankenstein #23 was listed at a price OBO...I got an offer that consignee agreed to and it was LESS (and not by a small amount) than the price listed for sale.

For consigned stuff, consignee has final input on prices. I TRY not to list stuff that I think is ridiculously high, once in awhile I do, but I tell consignee that their price is way too high.

Stuff I purchase myself to resell....even if I get a great deal on the purchase, I mostly sell at not a huge markup...no need to charge my customers an arm and a leg more if I got a good deal.

Sometimes this strategy backfires....I had a customer who bought 5 copies of a particular book recently at price $x....I got a few more in at a great price and offered them at $10 less than before...pissed customer off that he lost $50 and he is returning all 5 that he bought.

And consignments, sometimes I have the SAME BOOK listed at different prices...I advise consignee of competition and pricing, but sometimes based on what THEY PAID for said item, I end up listing at different prices based on consignee's input....that's just how it goes sometimes.

Returning books if you drop the price on others is poor form, in my opinion - the buyer could have tried to negotiate with you. Since they didn't, they should accept the price they were sold at. If you choose to sell others at a different price, that's your prerogative.

I fully agree in this case. Just another credit to David's outstanding customer service that he even allowed the purchaser to return these items.

Customer should have asked (no guarantee) to maybe split the difference as store credit. Seems silly to blow a deal up for $50.

It seems reasonable to me to at least discuss the issue with David rather than overreact.

Yea. No different than buying a book off eBay etc and finding one that sold cheaper the next day. Pretty sure the seller isn't going to agree to an offset. Kudos to David for his SOP. Top notch.

Yeah, it happens. There is a book right now that David has that I paid more for from him a couple of months ago. Did I do a little sigh when I saw it? Sure, but that's the risk you take with any purchase. I've also gotten books from David that he's sold for $50 more down the road. I figure it all evens out.

Absolutely. And if there were a HUGE difference, I wouldn't hold that against David. I might email him to discuss what happened -- maybe a change in the market, etc -- for my own education, but geez, I know he didn't try to screw me with the price on the one I bought. Ultimately, I was the one who decided that price was fair for me. He didn't make me buy it!

    Update:

    1) I will have some new items uploaded (hopefully later this afternoon)
    2) I will be closed Thurs/Fri of this week as I'm taking my daughter on some college visits (wife took her to Boston today/tomorrow).
    3) Regarding the $50 saga.....I refunded the buyer his $$ ($300). He shipped books back Priority Mail and USPS has "lost" them...they never arrived....Customer put in a USPS claim and I asked for an update yesterday...Today I got $300 PayPal from the guy so looks like he made me "good"/ Obviously, if the books ever show up here, I will send the $$ back to him. Weird situation that seemed to work out.
