For those of us still starting out, a still-in-the-shrinkwrap copy of Desperation GE is a pretty big deal. Thanks Dave!!!!
A new GE and tickets to a Joe Hill event in Portsmouth NH in May, both on the same day? I need to quit while I'm ahead!

"Thanks, but no, it isn't a cowboy hat. It's a fedora. And yes, Indianna Jones is still socially relevant."
I read Heart Shaped Box a couple of years ago to see what the hype was all about. I thought it was just so-so. Better, actually, than I thought it would be but I've got plenty of other stuff I want to read before I go back to him again. I know I should give his writing another chance but there is just so much other good stuff out there.
I checked my records and I paid $300 for my copy back in 1998 directly from CD when it was published. Man, those were the days! A King lettered S/L for that price. Publishers are asking $3K and up now.
I don't think David's asking price is out of line (of course I am not looking to buy one). It's really a beautiful book and has so many signatures by famous authors other than King.
"A real limited edition, far from being an expensive autograph stapled to a novel, is a treasure. And like all treasures do, it transforms the responsible owner into a caretaker, and being a caretaker of something as fragile and easily destroyed as ideas and images is not a bad thing but a good one...and so is the re-evaluation of what books are and what they do that necessarily follows." - Stephen King
I have the US and UK proof of "The Fireman" by Joe Hill due out in May and that looks real interesting!
I read somewhere the film rights have been sold to it also.

I'm going to that too! Should be fun. I love his work and have a lot of signed Hill books( I have one on order from Water Street books but may not need it now. Hopefully he will personalize at this event, if not I'll keep my Water Street order) but haven't met him yet.
I'm semi just starting out with fancier SK editions as well. I was thinking of picking up one of the Desperation GE's that he added.
Z I've met Joe a couple of times and he always does personalized and seems to always include a little doodle related to the title. He will also sign other titles of his, but only 3 at a time. More than that and he asks you to go through the line again. He seems to "multitask" and can sign and carry on a conversation as well. Depending on the event, he will spend a reasonable amount of time with you. At an event last fall, we spoke for a good 4 or 5 minuets!
As far as the GE stuff, I say get it while you can. These tend to be in a price range that most new collectors can handle, and for me, they give me a feeling that I'm acomplishing something. It feels good to know that I have something that only 1750 in the whole world can have (or 3000 or whatever, you get my point) but that I' m not spending beyond my present means. Not by much anyways.......

That's good to hear. I'm looking forward to it! I loved 20th Century Ghosts before I knew who he was related to and have really enjoyed his novels. I haven't read the Locke and Key series though. He may not get as big as his Dad over time and may not put out as much content over the years but I definitely think he can hold his own and I can't wait to read The Fireman and whatever comes after!
Your second paragraph states everything perfectly. I've been a reader of SK since before I was a teenager and have always just bought the hardcovers as they came out. With the more recent boom of gift editions, limiteds, lettereds etc I've found myself wanting to upgrade. I usually can't afford the S/L's and certainly not the lettered editions but I have SK's sig on several things, I don't need it a 100 times. These GE's are beautiful!
The new Betts consignment just shoed my bank account in the nuts.
Again.
Yeah me too.... Basically all the books I have sold through him... Well he can just keep the money. Lol

Is $175 current market value for a SOD1-gift?
