You're right! Edited! I just tried to do a quick list and didn't think of them. I think Dean/Neal is my favorite of the two though I love them both.
1. Father Brown (many stories by Chesterton)
2. Atticus Finch (To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee)
3. Jim Dixon (Lucky Jim by Kingsley Amis)
4. Father Callahan
5. The Bear (The Bear Went Over the Mountain by William Kotzwinkle)
6. Remus Lupin
7. Švejk (The Good Soldier Švejk by Jaroslav Hašek)
8. Khodja Nasreddin (two novels by Leonid Soloviev)
9. Hamlet
10. Dick Swiveller (The Old Curiosity Shop, by Charles Dickens)
I am thinking of putting him on my list too, instead of Hamlet.
And probably Huckleberry Finn (instead of whom???? there're only ten slots...)

bears are back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A "favorite characters of Jean" list without Hamlet? Sacrilege! That's cool! Spontaneity is awesome.
IMO, categories the way you've done them do not hurt at all, here. Personally, though, I would have put Agent Cooper in "other?".
Well, if someone put a gun to my head, I'd have to say Rocky Horror, himself.
This thread is really cooking now! See you all again, soon.
Okay, it took some effort, but I thought carefully about these lists, and I finally deduced your Amazon passwords so that I could charge stuff to your credit cards.
While I was at it, I picked out another batch of other characters, just for fun.
Ozymandias: Han Solo (Star Wars)
LadyHitchhiker: Dr. Peter Venkman (Ghost Busters)
Kidd Ikarus: Connor MacLeod (Highlander)
cody44: Mitch Taylor (Real Genius)
ola: Edmond Dantès (The Count of Monte Cristo)
Brice: Martin Blank (Grosse Pointe Blank)
Jean:
Woofer: I have a sneaking suspicion that eventually you will really pull a Dr. Cox all over me. I'll do what I can, tho, whenever you're ready to play."Cats are never fooled by appearances, unlike human beings, who seem to enjoy it."

Hmm! That's interesting. I've always thought of Agent Cooper as a definite good guy. But...Personally, though, I would have put Agent Cooper in "other?".twin peaks ending
Big-big bearbrother, your list is beautiful. It tells that you're an incredible person, but no surprise there.
My list.. hmm. Let's give it a try.
1. Cuthbert Allgood
2. Henry Leyden (Black House)
3. Fëanor Curufinwë (Silmarillion)
4. Huan (Silmarillion)
5. Oy
6. Aslan (Chronicles of Narnia)
7. Sam Winchester (Supernatural)
8. Han Solo (Star Wars)
9. Captain Nemo (Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea)
10. Walter Cuthbert Blythe (Rainbow Valley, an Anne of Green Gables book)
erm.. I'm definitely seeing a pattern here. I am. I think so.
"...neither the stupid jokes nor the easy surface emotions were the truth of Cuthbert Allgood."
Don't forget about The Mysterious Island, Lily.
I see one pattern, already; good taste. Like Jean.
I loved the Anne of Green Gables books, when I was a kid.
You don't think of the Dude as a good guy? There's a difference between a good guy and a hero.

I think of it as probably my best tdt.com post so far.
For a tv lawman, Cooper was definitely unconventional. "Coffee, coffee, coffee..."
As for the quibble over the show's cancellation, I think that Twin Peaks, just as it currently exists, is utterly perfect. More would be about as bad as the idea of having a Pet Semetary 2. The existing Twin Peaks totally subverts tv pablum, which fits, since the series really was reflecting on the television medium, itself, all along. The bumbling detective ironically named "Andy," identical cousins from The Patty Duke Show, the one-armed man from The Fugitive... and the list goes on. It is hilarious to me that the "save our show" campaign led to final episodes which
And that the finale's "cliffhanger" generated interest enough for a film...twin peaks endingtwin peaks ending
It's no wonder that folks here keep trying to distance themselves from the villains which interest them. That's just exactly what villains are for, isn't it? We all have potential for evil. The point of studying it is to avoid becoming it. I'm not too proud to admit that some of the darkness listed on this thread is part of my own nature. Categorizing "good" and "bad" characters obviously makes our fiction more simplistic. We need to take great care in how we deal with the facts. Play with fire, and you might get burned.
Are sins ever forgiven?

I'll definitely be reading that post!
It took a while to get over TP's ending. Because it wasn't an ending. What I accepted eventually was something like what you said: if it had continued, it couldn't have gotten much better. Even as the Black Lodge/White Lodge conflict became more of a focus after solving the murder...other parts of the show got even more goofy and distracting - and they would have been obligated to continue all the lame soap opera sub plots along with the story. Might as well have left with some strong imagery and question markAs for the quibble over the show's cancellation, I think that Twin Peaks, just as it currently exists, is utterly perfect.
I don't know how they would have pulled off the 25 years thing passing anyway. (At least, this is what I have to tell myself every time I watch the last season.)
Yeah, the most compelling villains often have the same, solid sense of purpose as the heroes do. The best of both sides can get mixed into the same gray pot. The realistic, sometimes ambiguous depiction of evil in a character is one of the most powerful things in any medium...it's something that people can relate to but don't usually want to relate to, because humans want have a sense of purpose without having to stop and examine that purpose every now and then. People just don't have the time to, I guess. Or don't find it useful, because it can seem to do more harm than good at first. It's no wonder that folks here keep trying to distance themselves from the villains which interest them...Play with fire, and you might get burned.
Just a rough guess from who I can identify.
Using Your a determinator-ish person. Get things done no matter the cost.
Smooth with the ladies.
And have a wicked good sense of humor.
Of the 4 temperaments your a mix of Sanguine and Choleric. I'ma say leaning towards Choleric.
Oooh, philosophy.
Hi, KimDealisHot. Nice to meet you, welcome to the site.
Um, speaking of being smooth with the ladies, please allow me to introduce you: Letti is short for Nikolett. I don't think so. I think that what it shows is that you're telling the truth about having written it without much thinking. Which is cool: There's definitely some real depth there, no need to gild the lilly.
Also, I don't think that it means that you have sense of humor, because you said Ace Ventura.
Does this mean that you don't like the movie versions?
I'm curious; what is your favorite Wolverine story?
Have you read the "Second Foundation Trilogy" (Benford/Bear/Brin) ?

"So many vows. They make you swear and swear. Defend the King, obey the King, obey your father, protect the innocent, defend the weak. But what if your father despises the King? What if the King massacres the innocent? It's too much. No matter what you do, you're forsaking one vow or another."
John McClane!
your list tells me you're a person whose affairs are not meddled with.
"...neither the stupid jokes nor the easy surface emotions were the truth of Cuthbert Allgood."
Wow, thank you. It's really good to read a description from someone who doesn't know me at all. How much it is true... good question. I should know myself better for that. But yeah, I can be really stubborn. (What gave you the idea?)
What is the problem with Ace Ventura?
I think my sense if homour is good because.. because.. I like it. :laughs: Not very convincing I guess.
:long hug:
Don't be sorry at all. I loved your answer because we don't know each other yet. I hope we will.
Anyway I do try to be smooth with the ladies. They are so beautiful and most of them have no idea about it.. so I try my best.
Roland would have understood.
Letti, there's nothing wrong with Ace Ventura, and you are awesome, you already know that.
"So many vows. They make you swear and swear. Defend the King, obey the King, obey your father, protect the innocent, defend the weak. But what if your father despises the King? What if the King massacres the innocent? It's too much. No matter what you do, you're forsaking one vow or another."
After reading through this, and thinking about it nearly the entire night, I can finally say there's no way I could post up a "quick-10" fav characters...I'm such a huge fiction nerd, in all media forms...so I probably have somewhere in the ballpark of hundreds of loved characters.
I actually did attempt a quick count of 10 characters, but felt bad when I re-read my rough draft, because I'd think of 10 more who I thought were equally awesome. Reading other people's posts did the same thing to me, too.
In any case, as you were, folks. I like reading these.
Elodin: "Tombs is for feckless twits who can't chew their own food. My boy's a Re'lar! He has the feck of twenty men!"
Kvothe: “Books are a poor substitute for female companionship, but they are easier to find.”
Simmon: ”It’s just ointment in case you get burned...but if you mix it with piss, it turns into candy.” Sim’s expression was deadpan. “Delicious candy.”
Bricey, I thought you'd have Cthulhu on your list. Ah, but I know the reason. You don't like him anymore because he doesn't let us talk.
Wait! The Scarecrow? I knew you were awesome but... But, now you're awesomer!!!
You're not a deep soul? Now I feel myself more shallow. I am in love with your list that tells me you're in love with people who can do everything for their passions without hasitating.
And here is my list:
1. Sylar (Heroes)
2. Randall Flagg
3. Elphaba Thropp (Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West)

5. Ozymandias
6. Severus Snape
7. Mr. Spock (Star Trek)
8. Feemalo+Fumalo+Fimalo
9. Atropos
