    Assuming this is algebra, and you're having actual numbers stand in for letters....

    7 must be four times 18, and 1 must be 25 times 7, right?

    So say instead of 1, 18, and 7 you substitute A, R, and G.

    A=25G=100R

    <.<

    >.>

    Beyond that I'm stumped--I don't know how to make the first one work out.... Unless you're being REALLY tricky and having SOME of those 1's being A's and some actually 1 but you're not saying which is which....

    Assuming that this is straight algebra would be a mistake. Yes the parentheses imply multiplication, However, substituting for variables would be a mistake. I dont want to give away too much yet.

    As a math equation, it obviously doesnt work. So, It probably should not be approached as such.

    I may have been too tricky, but I'll will give some further clues as needed.

    1st,18th,and 7th obviously imply that there is an order to the answers. Perhaps chronological....

    Another clue: This riddle may be more difficult for Non-American members...say sorry

    D'oh!

    1 = George Washington?
    7 = Andrew Jackson?
    18 = Ulysses S. Grant?

    But that doesn't make sense....

    Doh!

    I made a stupid. Indeed, Grant is the 18th president. If one substitutes, 16th for 18th, maybe the riddle will make more sense.

    I gave too much away on my previous clue it seems.

    Good job J and Y.

    That would be Abraham Lincoln, but it still doesn't make perfect sense.... Because where does Andrew Jackson fit in?

    Andrew Jackson is on the 20 dollar bill.
    George Washington is on the one dollar bill and on the quarter.
    Abe Lincoln is on the penny and the 5 dollar bill.

    Thus:
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    20(1ST) (20$ or 5$)= 1(16TH ) (5$) = 1(7TH) (20$) = 5(1ST) (5$)

    100(16TH ) (1$ or 500$) = 1(1ST) (1$) = 25(7TH) (500$)

    I dont think that this was a very good riddle, even if it hadnt been flawed by my mistake.

    Ah, okay, I see what you did there....

    It wasn't a bad riddle, barring your mistake--and I might have seen it if it had been a president who ISN'T on our currency.

    No one's gotten MY riddle yet, at any rate....

    I appreciate your effort BC! I was just put off by the algebraic look to the riddle.
