How far back do you read the NP thread and to what extent does it influence your musical selections? Are there just a few folks that sway your musical tastes? Do some come off as odd or too old or too young? (No names please)

All that's left of what we were is what we have become.
As is well known I read everyone's posts. There are certain member's posts who will automatically influence me to track down a band (not everyone they post though....if I did that I'd have no time for here ), but sometimes I'll just track something down based on a random post too. There is no too old or too young and genre is irrelavant. I just like good music.
Just like good bud, eh?

I pay attention to everyone's posts because it's fascinating to me to know what music people listen to and when and why and all that.
As far as influencing my own pursuit of new music, I tend to pay very close attention to Fruno's posts. There is a large amount of common ground in our musical tastes. A lot of stuff I listen to nobody besides Fruno seems to know what it is. I also appreciate that when he posts about something the rest of us may not know, he typically gives some form of explanation as to what it is. This helps me sort out what stuff I might like to follow-up on and hear for myself.
I pay attention to Jayson, Brice, and Seymour's posts above most others. Jayson and I are apparently musical twinners, so oftentimes I'll be listening to similar music. It's funny but happens often - I don't post what I listen to constantly, so at night I'll listen to calm or crazy music with no middle ground. As a result, I was immersed in a jazz freakout the night before Jayson was jazz heavy and was on a Neko Case kick last night before his run today.
And Seymour is my protege, so I must lead him on the path to musical righteousness.

Seymour is in good hands with you as a mentor.
I think we need to get him into The Thermals. They seem like they'd be right up his alley.
Yes! I say start with Fuckin' A or The Body... More Parts Per Million and Now We Can See are definitely the ones for people who like the band already. [Self-aggrandizing side note: Fuckin' A was recorded at the studio I interned at!]

I'd start with TBTBTM as I think it's the most "accessible" to use a word that gets overused describing music. By the end of "Here's Your Future" he should be hooked. After that album, it may be easier to appreciate where they came from with Fuckin' A and More Parts Per Million as well as where they're going with Now We Can See.
Or he could do them in chronological order and witness Hutch's continual growth as a song writer.
Aye, aye. Hey, just start a Thermals thread!

Well there's an idea worth having. I'll start looking for some youtube stuff for a first post.
Now I'ma listen to the Thermals.
I obviously study Fruno's posts, as well as Jayson's. And the others, to a lesser extent. I know what the others are, more often.
Big town's got its losers, small town's got its vices...
Seymour, given some of the other stuff you've posted that you like, I've thought for awhile that you might like the Thermals but I kept forgetting to post video for you. Thanks to Fruno for reminding me.
I checked those out. Really good stuff.

glad to be of service
The Thermals are gonna be such a moneysuck.

Moneysuck? They only have 4 albums, and SubPop keeps prices low.

True, and their albums are the kind you will listen to over and over again (I know I do) so you'll get your money's worth. Try not getting addicted to The Body The Blood The Machine, I dare you. That album lived in my car's cd player for a long long time.
But I'm sixteen and have no job. Therefore, anything I actually feel obligated to buy is gonna be a moneysuck.

I'm 20 and have no job. So I use Google! And SO CAN YOU!!!!
Type the following in to a Google search:
(album name) + Mediafire
If this fails to find the album, use:
(album name) + (artist) + Mediafire
