When told by my boyfriend that I was a doll, KEN (Brice)
I let out my voice in harmonious tones; SING (Brice)
For thousands of pounds did I seem to bear--all TON (Brice)
From a French guy I met once; we spoke on the phones GARS (Maturins_Daughter)
And I should have been brighter, but wanting a lark, DENSE (SigTauGimp)
I met him and made love in this English park.

Let me be the first then!

My impressions . . . . it was very awkwardly worded.

"when told by my boyfriend" . . . . . why not when my boyfriend told me?
Also I would shy away from vernacular such as 'boyfriend'.

The second line also seems very awkward as well.

I think if the language was clearer it would be more resonant.

Of course, these are just my opinions, and I am in no way a literary scholar.

Thank you for that bit of unsolicited criticism. Care to actually guess at the answer?

Maybe you could "WOW" us with one of your expertly worded riddles in the future.

Yeah, ummm...there is a writer's forum where criticism is welcome. This however is a forum for riddles and they are for solving. Sometimes even the specific wording is a clue to the solution.

J&Y: If I said "I have no idea" when it applied I'd be saying it in almost all of these threads.

At least then I'd know my riddle was seen....

Anyway, here's a hint--every line (except the last one) has an answer that's a one-syllable word. Put them together and you get the answer to the last line (the whole riddle).

Also: don't overthink them. The clues are easier than you think!

mia/susannah is on the right track for the first one already....

So...any ideas? Barbie isn't the first answer, as it's one syllable only, but think something similar....

"Ton" is right. "Sigh" is not. Harmonious tones, remember?

On the rest...at least for now I'm totally stuck. Maybe this'll help someone else though or maybe I'll see it later.

I keep thinking of Kensington Gardens, but for my life I can't figure out how to split 'gardens' into two words. *sigh*

    You're absolutely right!

And as for splitting it into two words?

    Don't be so....
