That Insomnia gift edition was my downfall... up until that time - 1994 - I just had a goal of collecting every King title in hardback... not necessarily first edition... but hardback, any edition.
Then I walked into an brand new Austin mall... it was just before Christmas and I was Christmas looking...not shopping, just looking. I had lost my job 3 years earlier and was living day to day, just trying to make ends meet on about 5 grand a year - DJing for tips and giving plasma twice a week.... I ate a lot of rice and beans in those days.
While cruising the mall, i walked into a sports memorabilia shop. I wasn't really interested in baseball cards or such, I think there was a good looking girl in there that drew me in. On a table, was a single copy of a gift edition Insomnia. I had never seen a slipcased book before, and I was totally taken in with it. I bought that bugger for $75.00... and starved for the next month because of it.
Though I wasn't able to really start collecting limited editions and rare King until 1997, which was when I graduated with my engineering degree and got a real job... that gift Insomnia was the initial spark that lit the fire which has now burned through probably close to a couple of hundred grand of my money to date.
Still have that bastard... it holds a special place in my case... as the first real collectable I purchased.
Crazy Dog is BACK!!! Terry, that's a great story and I can dig it!!!! My first "Limited" I ever purchased was "Black House" which also happens to be in my top five King novels. I had never seen or touched a S/L edition before and I bought this from Hutch for $525!!! Still remember marveling over the fine production of it all and I was also hooked from that day forward!!! I too have the same ambition to collect every King first edition novel (except fucking "Faithful" I burn those!! lol) and have succeeded so far and added their UK counterparts as well.
Anyway, great to see you back on the boards, buddy!!! We need a little "Boome" around here!!! lol lol
Thanks... just passing through, thought I'd say howdy
Love it!

Any thoughts as to why so long? I haven't held a copy and I'm no expert, but it looked like a decent production. Was the run (3,750) just too large for one of his non-major novels?

- Although heavily promoted as a trade hardback (1,300,000 first run), Insomnia wasn't widely loved as a story.
- No real internet or ebay then.
- Ziesing didn't promote it well. Mark Z. was content to just sit on unsold copies.
It is a pretty nice production as I once had one.
I think Mike(Duke) is officially licensed by Suntup to provide updates on their products only. Paul might sue if the likeness is used to update other publishers products.
And yes we love you, Mike and your enthusiasm is unparalleled
You don't know my kind.....You don't my mind.....Dark necessities are part of my design.....
You are correct Brian. I would need to get permission from Suntup first, before I attempted another update for a different company. Sorry guys, that's just the way it is.
And I appreciate the sentiment Brian. Even I know I walk the tight rope of enthusiasm like a wallenda .

Of course I’m cracking up over here.
Haven’t heard from Michaël (Biomieg) in a while. Anyone know if things are ok with him?

Yeah, I bought a few things from him too.
I'm sure if there is intelligent life somewhere out there in the universe, they are wise enough to stay away from us.

Happy Canada Day, eh.
Happy Canada Day.
I've only been to Canada once - a drunken trip to see a band play late at night, so I pretty much saw nothing of Montreal, which I would describe as being like a city, but clean - there was nothing on the streets (I think I'm the only American who doesn't think littering is A-OK).
It was a memorable trip - I drank some cold beer, saw some good live music, and for the only time in my life, someone nearby...sought to "entertain" himself while..."admiring" me, I guess. Strange night.

He posted this past week in some thread or other - I don't recall which...
Speaking of which, Father Cody dropped off the radar early this year after a pretty prolific posting run - anybody confirm that he's alright? (TDT is the sole online social network I participate in...)
