Please, please, please wait just a minute!
At the time of their invention, books were devices as crassly practical for storing or transmitting language, albeit fabricated from scarcely modified substances found in forest and field and animals, as the latest Silicon Valley miracles. But by accident, not by cunning calculation, books, because of their weight and texture, and because of their sweetly token resistance to manipulation, involve our hands and eyes, and then our minds and souls, in a spiritual adventure I would be very sorry for my grandchildren not to know about.

A Luddite to the end, as was Kilgore Trout, as was Ned Ludd, the possibly but not certainly fictitious workman who smashed up machinery, supposedly in Leicestershire, England at the beginning of the nineteenth century, I persist in pecking away at a manual typewriter. That still leaves me technologically several generations ahead of William Styron and Stephen King, who, like Trout, write with pens on yellow legal pads.

…like Humphrey Bogart or Peter Lorre in Casablanca, the third-greatest movie ever made.
The greatest movie ever, as anybody with half a brain knows, is My Life as a Dog. The second-greatest movie ever is All About Eve.

    Kurt Vonnegut, TIMEQUAKE, 1997

    these arrived today:

I like this old French translation of IT, split into three paperbacks, all with nice covers. I ordered them because I was curious about Stan Uris's death scene in the bathtub. I wondered if scared-out-of-his-mind-in-French-Stan would bother with the cedille, the extra squiggle under the C in "ÇA", as he wrote it on the wall in his own blood.

Turns out he did! I guess it fits with Stan's personality.

Now I'm stuck wondering about this cover:

Who's dragging poor Georgie into the sewer if Pennywise is standing next to him?

I was watching the special features on my DVD of PASSENGERS, and the production designer was talking about how the bar was designed with the one from Kubric's THE SHINING in mind, and shot some of the ways Kubric did his bar. He never mentioned King.

Reading a book which so far has used two references I did not know. Dopp Kit and Henley t-shirt...Had to look those both up.

Glad I'm not the only one!

At least with the Dopp Kit the author provided context so I could understand what he was referring to. The Henley t-shirt did not provide any.

I haven't been on here much lately, but I have been busy; I'm now officially a scriptwriter and web series co-host!

Check out CLEAR SKIES, an astronomy/telescope series for beginners, kids, and people with short attention spans; all 5 episodes are less than 15 minutes long and can be watched in less than an hour. Produced by @StardomSpace's Ron Sparkman with videography by Isaac Frame Films, we're at 10K+ views across all platforms since premier on July 20th (Apollo landings anniversary!). We even got the "Guest Blog of the Month" on Neil deGrasse Tyson's STAR TALK! (great show if you've never seen it!)

Reception has been so overwhelmingly positive that we're working on Season 2 right now, as well as a spin-off series called "ABC's of Astronomy" where we teach space/astronomy terminology, and it's done by kids.

If interested, take a look at http://www.youtube.com/c/stardomspace. We're also on Facebook and Twitter @ClearSkiesAstro, stop by and say hi!

    Great job, George and Erick!

I watched the first episode. I thought I was informed fairly well on the subject. I learned several things I was unaware of. I'm looking forward to watching the rest.

Those are pretty cool. Too bad I have big feet and they don't make my size.

For the last couple of months I have been having trouble with the screen being completely white for anywhere from 5-60 seconds after I turn on the tv. Sometimes it will only respond if I hit the DVR button or change channels. Lots of times when changing channels it goes blank for 5-20 seconds. its very frustrating. Planning on changing once I get back from an upcoming vacation.

Was going to switch over to spectrum last year, but decided against it because the only had boxes that could record 2 things at a time. While that is enough most of the time, I seem to recall rare instances in the past when there was 3 or 4 things on at once I wanted recorded.

I had DTV in the past. I switched to DISH and preferred it. I continued with DISH until I stopped paying for cable/satellite.

The only problem with the satellite dish is inclement weather. Just when the hurricane was approaching I'd loose the signal. (Multiple/larger dishes help with this problem.)
