In books they always say, “damned” but in real life people say, “damn.” Like, “this damned heat” instead of, “this damn heat,” for example. Have I always been saying and hearing it wrong?

Sorry my friend, I should have been clearer... we got married, no engaged! We have been together for ten years, kind been engaged for most of that time (even though she said we weren't) decided last year too do it on our ten yr anniversary.. so with one year planning and working every hour we (I) made it happen...

You’re right, people say “this damn heat” (unless you live in Australia - then you say, “this farrrkin heat.”)

Another word authors use that really bugs me is 'spat'. I have never said, nor ever heard anyone say that, grammatically correct or not. It's always 'spit', past or present tense, and I always read 'spit' in my mind. So go and expectorate on that, why dont'cha?
I'm sure if there is intelligent life somewhere out there in the universe, they are wise enough to stay away from us.

Couldn’t get through a book because the author used “ebon” over and over again. Ebon hair, ebon sky, ebon puddle water.... Not everything is ebon damnit!

on the same terms as that one. "Spittle". Who the hell calls it spittle in real life? I feel like some writers must have gotten the ruler to the back of the wrist growing up for saying "spit" instead.
