Long one short, I ended up in an induced coma for 13 days and it was touch and go for a while a couple of times! I got out of hospital just before Xmas (which was great) and am slowly on the mend. Any way - I missed my favourite website and my favourite King fans and hopefully can get back posting on a semi regular basis again.

    Cheers all.

    Alan,

Sorry to hear about your illness(es) but I'm glad that you are mending. It IS amazing how this site generally makes people happier. Best going forward!

Thankfully no severe interior damage to the house (especially since it fell next to the library!). Just going to be a long week of car shopping, meeting with inspectors, construction and insurance folks. Took three days just to get power back up and the cleanup has been quite fun! Ugh...

Hang in there. Better days are ahead! I hope your insurance properly takes care of your needs!

    All,

I've been away from the site since about the beginning of the year. I had a urinary tract infection (UTI) but the symptoms weren't worse than other that I've dealt with before. My urologist didn't do a culture even though I told him that it might be a "good in case" idea. In February, the fever finally rose to an unacceptable level so I called an ambulance to take me to the ER. I explained what was going on to the doctor. It has happened at least 50 times in my life. Yet, instead of treating me for a UTI, everyone focused on my heart. It Was beating fast but that was 100% related to the infection.

I was admitted with serious abdominal pain and a high fever. Turned into sepsis and I spent 8 days in the hospital. They ignored my abdominal pain (I could only eat food on one of the 8 days). The nurses failed to turn me from side to side every few hours and I left the hospital with a Stage IV decubitus ulcer on my ass. Saw a wound doctor and plastic surgeon yesterday. Under perfect conditions, it will take 6-9 months to heal.

This is not how I expected 2017 to start. I'm still weak but I'm going to make an appearance at my office tomorrow for a few hours. I read some of problems others here have had in the last 6 months and I'm glad that things are going in the right direction. There were many times I wanted badly to give up while in the hospital and the month thereafter. SK and this site always made me happy, though. I'm not sure what the future holds for me but I wanted to let you know that I missed this place. I'm now caught up with one thread. I look forward to more reading in the near future.

RF I think they are looking for test subjects. Look at this research being done. Cant find your thread where you were hit by the drone so i am posting here.

What happens if a drone hits you in the head?

What happens if a drone hits you in the head?

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) wants to know, so they conducted a study to understand and mitigate the risks of drones flying over people, and what happens if a drone loses connection to its pilot or just crashes to the ground.

It turns out that small drones are safer near people than was thought.

"We were able to identify blunt force trauma, penetration injuries and lacerations as the most significant threats to people on the ground,” said David Arterburn, an engineer at the University of Alabama in Huntsville and lead investigator for the study, which was conducted by several universities and released Friday afternoon in Washington, D.C.

As part of the test, the researchers dropped a typical drone (a Phantom 3, weighing 2.7 pounds) on a crash test dummy at a typical speed of about 34 mph. They found that while there was only a 0.01 to 0.03% chance of a serious head injury, there was an 11-13% chance of a serious neck injury.

The team classified collision severity by identifying hazardous drone features, such as unprotected rotors.

Some good news out of the study was that multi-rotor drones fall more slowly, due to aerodynamic drag, and cause less damage than the same mass of metal or wood. Drones also deform and flex more than wood and metal debris, imparting lesser amounts of energy and, therefore, less damage.
    ADVERTISING

As for potential fatalities, blunt force trauma would be the most significant contributor, the study found. For lacerations, the report said that protective blade and rotor guards should be required for all flights over people.

Flying over people not associated with the flight is one key to deliveries and other urban uses of drones.

70 Gremlin update - Finally got the Gremlin back - the 360 V8 engine had to be pulled and the chassis crossbar cut out and re-customized to get the new headers to fit in in. Bunch of other upgrades done too. Haven't had a chance to clean off the shop dust yet, but the chromed ceramic headers look ...and perform... great! My mechanic even found/gave me a present... a steel metal plate Gremlin (going to have to paint it purple when i get the car painted.

Does anyone else on here suffer from arthritis? I am starting to have problems holding open books and holding them in general for extended periods of time. I was curious if there is a stand or other product that anyone is familiar with to assist with the problem. I have mainly switched to reading from my phone as it's the only way I can read for an extended period of time. The drawback to that my physical library hasn't been added to in some time.

*Random comment: I do not like e-books or electronic content in general.

Dumb question : in THE DARK TOWER #6, which is fiction but probably inspired by the truth, it is mentionned (in the french paperback version p258-259) that SALEM'S LOT got a book local trailer for promoting the release.
Did by any chance anybody manage to find this video ad?
