They neighbors live 2 houses away. The dogs broke through two different fences.The wife is terribly upset as she witnessed the attack, and the dog died in her arms.
She truly is beside herself.

I know you said that in CA a dog is considered property so there is not pain and suffering compensation. What about criminal damage to property? Is there some type of legal recourse you can take against the pet owner?

The dog is impounded and will be likely euthanized.
The owners are liable (but may have to be sued, and then the collected from) for the veterinary bills and the fence damage.
Animals are property and not humans. There is no Tort for an animals pain and suffering.
We are researching the possibility of suing them through Small Claims Court for being a private/public nuisance. There are precedents for such a thing, but it is a complicated process for someone who has never personally sued someone before.

Sorry to hear about the dog Jerome. I know this will irritate a lot of folks, but I would fully support a ban on pitbulls.....even though I know they can be wonderful pets, their strength, speed and ability to kill is just too great.....and over and over the wrong owners tend to gravitate toward these dogs. And for some reason, your knucklehead neighbor had to have four of them. You and Dolores have my sympathies.

TWO fences? That is fucked up. What is the disposition/attitude of the aggressive dog's owners? They should pay for all costs, obviously. Since no humans were physically injured though, anything over that is going to be tough. Damn.

was at the specialty Vet hospital/ emergency vet today - Worm had his first chemo treatment.
A guy brought in his dog - about 80+ lbs - and it had it's face all chewed up... all around the eyes swollen really bad, then the dog collapsed and had to be gurney'd to the back.

I asked the owner what happened, he points to his other dog... a 25 lb spaniel, and said she attacked my other dog in the backyard...
I just couldn't believe such a sweet looking smaller dog could do that much damage.

In exactly 24h I will be leaving France on my way to Japan.
- Well, I first go to Qatar (Doha International Airport), have a 8h transit : I have discovered that there are free 3h tours of Doha and I may be able to do one (its limited to 22 people, cannot book it)
- Then, off to Japan where I will be for about 2 weeks.

If some people wants / need SK books in arabic (may be able to pick some in Qatar) & japanese, let me know asap.
