So I've spent the past eight months coordinating a squadron reunion (we were all in Italy together 1994-1999), and it finally happened this past weekend in Las Vegas. Our last reunion was in Italy in 2004 and we had 8 show up then. Had 13 show up this time (plus significant others) which was a little disappointing, I was expecting 35-50. Had fun none-the-less. Here's us, I'm lower left:
Only real letdown was Las Vegas itself; if I'd known they still allowed smoking in public places (restaurants, hotels, casinos, and of course everywhere outside ) I would have picked a different place. It was disgusting. Between that, the prices, and the crowds I won't be going back anytime soon (last time for me was 22 years ago, coming back from 3 months in the jungle in Colombia and having a layover in LV ... it was reverse culture shock).
That aside, we of course hit the Venetian (being an Italian reunion). Some pretty cool things to see and do (dinner and live band at Gilley's, rides on top of the Stratosphere, roller coaster on top of NY NY, etc.) besides the casinos.
One highlight was Zombie Burlesque at Planet Hollywood:
Yes, that's right, Zombie Burlesque. It's a musical comedy about zombies, adult themed, and hilarious. See it if you get the chance.
I ended up winning about $600, so that paid for the weekend. We're going to plan for reunions every five years from now on, changing locations and time of year. It was a lot of work but worth it; seeing friends after 20 years and having it seem like last week is the best. Shannon , sorry I didn't get to look you up ... it was a non-stop weekend.
