    Back from lapland where we have been very lucky!

    We went there with my wife to celebrate our 10y anniversary, hoping to see some northern lights. We paid for a guide and didnt think that we'd get to see any, but he managed to get us to some places were we did and he took some pictures for us (my iphone wouldnt barely catch anything)!
    The following day, with slightly less aurora conditions (2/9) but a clear sky we decided to try to catch some more next to the river with a very good view of the sky. Waited a good hour and half by -5°C, and we got some more (even more impressive auroras) but didnt manage to get any good pictures of them.

    They are beautiful. I’m glad you seen them! Even as far south as me in Canada... we can see them from time to time. They are breathtaking.

    a bit of fun today... going through the some of doubleday files I've not really looked through completely yet... I found this letter a HS teenager wrote to the publisher in 1977 - 40+ years ago.

    anyway, on a lark I found her on Facebook... and shared a pic of the letter with her...
    here's her response:
    Omg...this is me..how did you get my letter????

    should I send her her letter back? I think she'd enjoy it a lot more than I . Obviously i blanked out her address and last name for privacy purposes.

    I did my time in the Royal Green Jackets in the British army, and was proud to have served my country... but I look at the way the world is going and question what was it all for at times! Im lucky, I came home alive frome three tours, and have no doubt I did some good but te world is getting worse! I know it nay seem a downer, but why is the world still so full of arseholes? All the best to those still serving and a my gratitude to those who paid the price... I will always remember you!

    I think I'll find a nice frame and send her the original for christmas, if she decides she wants it and sends me a mailing address (I doubt she still lives at the same address, though she does still live in the same town)

    Yeah... we just had a nice conversation (she's in Virginia) and still a big King fan... she was 17 when she wrote that letter in 1977, same age as me... well, technically she wrote that letter on May 14th 1977- the day I turned 18, but close enough.
    I got three copies of Sleeping Beauties signed by Owen King....
    I plan to throw one of those in the box with the letter... to surprise her and make her day. Guess I'm just some wacky atheistic stranger sporting some early Christmas cheer.
