Here is the sort of bookshelf that me and my gf are considering whenever we'll have some time in our new flat.
As agreed with her, i'll have 2 walls of our living room for my books + i'll probably arrange some space in our ~25-30mē garage, which isnt wet. We plan on transforming it in an atelier / bookroom (for valueless books) + storage.

Thanks everyone for the support last week after my brother-in-law passed away. It really meant a lot.
I already have thought of that. We have a big wall in front of a window (which has the sun in the morning), and I already told her that in no way my books will go on this wall. So we agreed to put the sofa there in the corner, and my books will be on the other corner walls, with no sun going directly to them

I've always been hesitant to put books in ANY room with windows that allow the sun in. If they are in such a room, I make sure the drapes are always drawn.
John
When I woke up this morning, I noticed that I left the blinds open in the book room since yesterday. Now the sun only hits in there in the morning, but I'd rather have left the front door unlocked than ever let direct sunlight in there!
So I found this on top of our mail box this morning at the apartment...
Should I be concerned?
I recently discovered, on twitter, a french artist that creates figurines/statues, and her artwork is absolutely stunning!
Shall I was able to afford anything, I think that I would love to commission some pieces, but... probbably outside of my price range. Especially now
Some exemples of the incredible art

Really nice! I'd love to commission something.... will have to check into the pricing.
Brian, so sorry to hear about your brother-in-law. He sounds like a great guy, it sucks to lose him so young.
Bob, congrats on completing that marching marathon. With a pack and the desert heat? Brutal.
John, I don't know what happened, but I am so glad you are recovering!
Herbertwest, I feel your pain. I just moved earlier this month as well. Packing the book collection felt like it took forever. I only moved 1.3 miles and handled the books myself, so I didn't pack them with the over abundance of wrap like I normally would. For now, like you, my collection remains in my garage. I need to level and secure my bookcases and then I need to deal with the sunlight issue. I expect that to have a local company come out and install the high end UV blocking transparent film on the glass doors of my bookcases. Then, because I am paranoid, I will likely have them install the film on the nearby window for extra protection. Then, of course, I will not allow direct sunlight on the bookcases. An important issue to remember is that sunlight bounces and reflects off walls, so while direct exposure is the worst, indirect exposure in a brightly sunlit room is not good either.

Apparently my browser is outdated and cannot be upgraded...I'm so tired of all the electronics bs. This computer is only about 4-5 years old and is already not being supported fully by Apple.
Macbook Pro with OS X version 10.6.8 and trying to update Safari. From what I can tell my Macbook operating system cannot be updated to a version that allows for the update to Safari. The easiest thing is to switch browsers however it is just irritating because I think I will lose all my bookmarks and I will certainly lose all my passwords.
You could try upgrade to the latest OS... but not sure if the Mac you have will be compatible with it. Switching browsers was going to be my suggestion, and I'm pretty sure with Firefox or Chrome there's a way to import the bookmarks as part of the install. Not sure about passwords though... Try install one of those and see if it prompts you to import from Safari.
For what it's worth, chrome shares the apple keychain with safari, so it should see all your passwords automatically. Firefox doesn't by default, but there are add-ons that allow you to (i.e., keychain service integration).
That being said, I highly recommend singing up for something like LastPass, 1Password, XMarks, etc. I use LastPass and XMarks and could not recommend them highly enough. Won't help now obviously, but I don't know what I'd do without them.

Thanks for the info. I just don't enjoy dealing with computers that much and get highly agitated by them. I use computers on a daily basis but only for light lifting and it seems like they are only getting more challenging to deal with.
No problem. I used to work in technical support, and now R&D operations at a software company. I tend to fight with computers a lot
Happy to help a follow DT member if I can.

Just returned from 2 days off the site. Spent a couple of days in Napa/Calistoga doing wine and beer tasting as well as spa treatments. Weather was perfect. Crisp in the morning. 80 degrees during the day. I feel great.
Also picked up 2 cases of Pliny the Elder (very difficult beer to obtain).
