Make your listing on here more attractive. List what King books you have and starting price. I know some members were looking for artist editions of DT books recently. Mentioning they start at $60 and shipping is $15 will get you more hits.

I have a S/L unopened copy for sale of The Children of Hurin by JRR Tolkien - the Super Deluxe Harper Collins edition from 2007. It's a gorgeous book in traycased (leather clamshell box) 1 of 500 copies made, signed by Christopher Tolkien and Alan Lee, blue marbled endpapers, red and gold foil stamping, hand sewn binding, full color plates, etc. An amazing production, still sealed in shrinkwrap w/publisher's original mailing box.

It's been torturous not to open it knowing that there's a masterpiece inside, but I'm glad I haven't. There's value in being the first one to ever hold a book like this. They originally sold for 350 pounds. I'd like to get about $1k if I had time to be patient, but need $ pretty quickly for unexpected bills. So looking for $800 via PP gift, and I'll split actual shipping costs w/buyer. I'll gladly send pictures of my sealed copy on request.

Details on the book (specs and pictures available at link below - not my copy obviously - but great pics of someone else who's selling one) Mine is #50 of 500, btw.

That's a really fair price for that edition. Personally, the fact that Chris signed it is a downer for me. Never cared for him for some reason. I always thought he just rode his Dad's coat tails. Of course I've never met him or talked to him so I suppose I have no rational basis for forming an opinion, but it is what it is.

Good luck, that should sell fast at that price.

Thanks for the comments. You know, I thought the same thing about Christopher Tolkien until I learned a lot more about him through my recent collecting. Turns out he drew all the maps used in The Lord of the Rings books from the very first publishing. He also played a massive role in finally getting The Silmarillion published in 1977 after JRR had tried so hard to get it published before or at least along with Lord of the Rings back in the mid-fifties. I've developed quite a lot of respect for the man.

And then, in regards to this Children of Hurin edition - there's the fact that Christopher Tolkien - JRR's 3rd and youngest son, born in 1924 - turns 90 this year and his signature isn't gracing as many books these days. Value going up. But as you said, is what it is, and to each his own. Appreciate you commenting on the fair price of this beautiful production.

I probably should not have posted as I have no rational reason for disliking the man, but I dearly love the, Tolkien four books and have been known to err on their side. My feelings are not to be viewed as a commentary in any way shape or form. The price is a good one. Snap it up!!!

That's very true. Members are frequently, selflessly helping other members out. With great deals, inside info, etc. I'm so glad I quit lurking and finally joined a couple months ago. With that spirit in mind, and admittedly my wife's OB office breathing down our necks for returned insurance charges, I'm lowering the sale price for the sealed super deluxe S/L The Children of Hurin discussed above to $700 PP gift, still splitting actual shipping w/buyer. At $800 I was trying to build in a tiny bit of valuation but it's just not necessary. I've got just a hair over $700 in it and will sell at that price.

Pictures readily available on request. Top link below has additional views of this beauty once opened:

I also have a nice copy of the Grant Wizard and Glass - this one is flatsigned by Stephen King at the recent Paris event. I can provide pictures of the book being signed as well as photos of the book itself. David @ Betts recently valued this at between $700 - $800. As I need to pay off a credit card bill, I'm looking for $650 PP Gift plus postage outside of UK.

PM me with offers if interested.
"A real limited edition, far from being an expensive autograph stapled to a novel, is a treasure. And like all treasures do, it transforms the responsible owner into a caretaker, and being a caretaker of something as fragile and easily destroyed as ideas and images is not a bad thing but a good one...and so is the re-evaluation of what books are and what they do that necessarily follows." - Stephen King
