An interesting case is The Princess Bride. This classic film features the book which its story-within-a-story is supposed to have been based on. It was not actually based on a book. However, a book was written based on the movie, for us to suppose the movie to be based on, and that book is supposed to be based on an earlier book. For people who enjoyed the wordplay of the film, this book also works splendidly. (The book based on the movie, not the book they were both based on; I still can't find that one, although I hear that it never worked as well, anyway.) Recommended.

The man with the pictures shows the advocate for words the same degree of respect and consideration that in fact film and filmmakers have afforded to literary types and their books in general.
