No idea.
Its a pretty common question but the owner has not made it public what his intentions are.
We decided to take a stab at it over a year ago and here we are with the best Dark Tower fan site on the internet.

ever notice how some thread pop up every day and you never see them? this is the first time i saw this thread.
Can someone direct me to the Message Board for Dummies page? Figured to try picking an avatar, but alas, no such luck. Thought maybe it had to do with number of posts, but I see most have figured out the avatar trick. I could brag and say I have mastered the shovel and the hammer (no moving parts), you know, to redeem myself, but I imagine most wouldn't be impressed. Don't have access to an eleven-year-old, so....?
Whitey - Your avatar is a pic from your own PC and you can access from the User CP ( top left of your screen options ).

Couple of ways to do this. Start by going to your UserCP (upper left) and choose "edit avatar" (also on the left)
Option one allows you to use a "hosted" image elsewhere on the internet. Basically find a pic that's small enough out there and put it in
OR
host your own photo in our Gallery
OR
host your own photo elsewhere like Photobucket or Imageshack.
copy the URL and paste it into the option one field, good to go.
This is by far the best method to do it.
Option 2 allows you to upload from your computer but the board tries to convert the size and rejects the image sometimes. Make sure it's pretty small if you are doing it this way.

Thank you, turtlex and Matt...and any eleven-year-old out there with the entrepreneurial spirit, perfect opportunity here, big big...course, that way is madness and an entrenched bureaucracy that is more than willing to foul things...I think I know what I've been missing...looking for "on-board" avatars. Got an image I tried earlier and the size thing matters. I'll work on it. Thank you again!
