Default James Herbert - The Fog & The Others

I have not long finished reading two books called "The Fog" and "The Others" by James Herbert. I absolutly loved the two of them and James as a author. He has more of a "shocking" or "gore" style of writing then King. The other thing i like is that he is a UK writer so i can picture more of the locations and the sceanery in the books then i do with Kings.

Has anyone else read these? If so what did you think of them?

All I've read of his was "Fluke," which isn't horror.

I enjoyed it as far as it went, though it was maybe a little cliched (and the ending was kind of out of nowhere), but it's definitely better than the movie adaptation of it--that was lame.

I was honestly surprised to find that he WAS a horror author because Fluke was the first thing of his I ever learned about. But I did enjoy some of the speculations and insights he came to, even if it did feel a little like preaching at times.

If you liked The Fog, read the rats trilogy: The Rats, Lair, and Domain. Very fast paced and grisly. Or The Dark which is a similar premise to The Fog.

Yes absolutely! Great little trilogy - and I especially love Domain.
I read a lot of Herbert many years ago, but these 3 I kept & re-read every couple of years.

no one read 48' by Herbert. Puts me in mind of Lud. Great book too.

i was reading haunted by herbert and he was just describing a soggy corpse crawling along the floor, reaching out to grab a guys leg, when my dog pressed it's nose against my calf. i honestly nearly shat my self. Screamed like a little girl and woke the whole house.
i guess he can build suspence.

48' severely disturbed me in many ways. I've alwys been a huge fan of Herbert, he's Englands answer to Stephen King if you ask me, have a lot of respect for the man, he's second in amount of novels only to Sai King on my book-shelf. My favourites are 'Moon', 'The Magic Cottage' and undoubtedly my over-all favourite is 'Once...' That book Is one of my favourite books, I'm a lot keener on his newer stuff as aposed to his old, though there are many gems in his back-catalogue.
