Oh my, this one's not faring so well thus far. Speaking for myself, this was the first short story collection of King's I'd read. This has some of his best shorts. A true classic. It obviously won't beat out the big boys like 'Salem's Lot of The Shining, but hopefully it'll still rank decent. One of my faves from the '70s!

I gave this one an "average" rating. Of all his collections, this one's stories were not the best for me. Still loved it though.

A funny (well, maybe not funny) sidestory to this book. We read from this in my high school English class. We read "The Ledge" I believe. I remember how psyched I was because that was just after I had discovered Stephen King on my own. The teacher passed out these beat-up paperbacks (with the hand and the eyes) around. It was cool...

    Argh.

I can fix it, but it will have to be after the poll has closed. Please edit your post and put it in all caps, in bold, so that I remember to do it when compiling the official scores.

I voted it good. The stories are rather uneven, with some really good ones and some not so great. Overall, though, good seems right.

I know just the cover you're talking about! When my son (who is now 16) was little, he had two imaginary friends (enemies?) named Doobie and YaYa and he was terrified of them both. He saw my copy of this book one day and pointed at the hand with all the eyes on it, and said, "That's YaYa, Mommy!" My kids are all a bit weird. ::sigh::

Again, a 3 on this. Some pretty good stories, some average. It's been quite a while since my last re-read of this one.

I also gave it a 5. It was one of my first SK reads so it will always hold a special place in my heart.

I still have that paperback with that cover. Freaky.

I'm going to assume I've "never read" this, because I only read one story out of it: "Night Surf."

Thus I'm going to vote that way.

Besides, I didn't like "Night Surf," and I don't want that to influence the whole collection when I haven't read any of the other stories.

Does that mean you don't have a copy of the book at all? It's a great one, overall. Has some outright classics!

I do not, but I have considered getting it (if for no other reason than to have that little intro at the beginning). But yeah, I am also curious about "Jerusalem's Lot," for example....

But no, I don't have it, and I've only read "Night Surf" from it.

I have voted "average", mostly thanks to "Jerusalem's Lot", "Night Surf", "The Mangler", "Sometimes They Come Back" and "Children of the Corn", or else would have had to vote "only so-so".
