I thought it was a great read. I gave it a 5. My daughter (age 11) is doing an oral presentation on the book at school. She enjoyed it also.

Actually, I am very much against doubling discussion lines. I can say here that I voted "1" because I found this story false, pointless and artificial through and through; but I still would like to expand on it later in the appropriate thread, when I finally have a clear head a some free time. I gave it a 3. Of the 3 "Bachman Books" I've read so far, it ranks 3rd to The Long Walk (1st) and Roadwork (2nd).
I liked the story, but it didn't (pardon the pun) blow me away.

Add me to the never read list. It's been one of those that I've wanted to read for a long time, just never seem to get around to it. I think I actually started it once, but only got a few pages in before I got sidetracked with something else.
Only the gentle are ever really strong.

But you live in Russia and you said amazon didn't work over there. It does in the US, though, so people should be able to find it and read it, then they could vote according to what they thought about the book.
But Amazon does ship internationally. Used books, that's up to the individual seller, but most do.
I gave a link to BookFinder yesterday, there was a listing for a new copy of the 1985 hardcover for just $18.95.
I read this back in the earlier '90's while it was still in print. I remember liking it, but that's about it, so I gave it a 3.

I first read this in elementary or jr. high school. It has always been a favorite of mine for some reason. I gave it a five.
