I don't believe it's outside. There are lights above the stage that look like stars and high windows in the gym.

Brian, are you averaging out these costs over the 6 books so that each edition is the same price or will they vary? I'm just considering what I want to commit to.

    Thanks.

Not what I was hoping for (Sword In The Darkness), The Cannibals, or The Dead Zone) but an interesting project from an historical perspective . Within that context I would have kept Pet Semetary out because it isn't part of the foundation that SK's career was built upon; it was just a contractual obligation but I understand why it is included. I will be purchasing gift editions of each as long as the quality is along the lines of It and Dr. Sleep.
I look forward to a Viking years announcement in the future!

Ordered. I dig the news. I think CD does a great job on these oversized, slipcased gift editions, and as someone who just wants a really pretty book with tons of bells and whistles- and doesn't want to pay several hundred dollars for a signature- I'm pretty excited about these. True- there is some uncomfortable overlap (wish I wouldn't have preordered the PS edition now), but I'm happier that these options will exist than not.

    A general thought:

I can't speak for Steve, but we all know he's been asked 1000+ times by presses who want to do a S/L of Carrie and he has always said no for his own reasons. I think, if you really bugged him enough, he might sign enough sheets for a Lettered Edition of the book, but we don't nag, bug, beg, or harass him to do things. If he isn't game for something, we're okay with that.

Basically, we're not going to try to "wear him down" to make something happen. I know other presses have used that tactic in the past to get things from him, you'll also notice those presses haven't published him since.

    Just my two cents!

Too bad no original trash-can draft of Carrie was included, but "deleted stuff" is hinted at for other books (just 'Salem's Lot, maybe, or maybe Before the Play will finally be published with The Shining?)

Hope you're not offended by some of the comments and feedback above Brian. You know by now that when you've got a winner this group is all over it in full support (hence previous crashing servers experience), but at the same time if it's not what everyone is looking for or was expecting ... well, you'll get that honest feedback as well. Obviously.

For me personally, I'm about the S/Ls, Proofs, and Remarques. Though I do have some Artist S/Ls, they're only a few out of hundreds of books, and I only got them because I couldn't afford or missed the King S/L at release. As far as Gift editions, I don't think I own any of them at all; I'm not a completist, so not much sense to me in buying a Gift when you're getting an S/L or Lettered.

I think it was a great idea for a project Brian, and of course we know they're going to be beautifully done as CD has established it's reputation for with releases over the past couple of years ... but not having them signed by King, combined with the total set price, really just took the wind out of my sails.

It'll be on a book by book basis. That way if someone only wants a few of them, they're only paying for what they get, etc. Thanks for asking!

It's not set yet, so I can't really begin to guess. There are ranges in the contracts based on production costs. It's probably safe to assume that printing The Stand will cost a lot more than Carrie, though.

There's a reason we will have published 14 books with him in 14 years when the last book in this deal ships, but I've probably said too much as it is.

Nope, feedback is always welcomed! Trust me, as a collector, I wish all of the editions were signed, too. Hopefully the collectors who decide to order these books will enjoy them. We'll certainly do our best to deliver beautiful special editions with some great special features!

ok then, lets back up a view inches and have a look what we have here.

we have the first US gift edition of the six big'n'early kings. so far so good - that is indeed a big deal for a publisher.

    Did i expect a s/l ? Sure i did.
Am i disappointed not to get one ? Absolutely !
Is the Gift edition absolutely over price ? Yes sire !

    But
Do i collect US firsts ? I do.

Is this UK/US topic important for me - hell yes - i have only US copies, so if this is the us copy
This the right gift edition for me (even if i already have the UK) to match my collection!

I will give it a try.
I expected a more expensive S/L so i have the cash left, and I will bit my ass if i miss this and the chance for a matching set, if they get fabulous!

so @Brian - i trust in you - get this books absolute freaking f-a-b-u-l-o-u-s!! ;D

    ordered.

    Brian,

Is there an opportunity for a bundled price for all six books if ordered at once?
