I'm pretty sure it was done in 2007. According to my contact, this is one of two that he got. He has a source at Hodder who didn't even remember a proof being done. The actual book was canceled but couldn't remember why.

It does seem that I've gotten a lot of nice items in the past few days!

I don't think The Mist came out in the UK until 2008. It opened here at the end of 2007 and didn't do big box office, so maybe that's why they cancelled it. Why publish a tie-in to a movie people aren't going to see?

I was thinking the exact same thing. If I were to bid on this proof, win it, and then find out later it was damaged, I would not be as happy...

Here is the description from the site:
Creasing to all pages and spine at top left corner; binding remains tight. Overall, very good condition.

I'll be passing on the Gunslinger proof. Mainly because I've spent enough money this month, but also because of the questions regarding its condition. I will be watching the auction, though, just out of curiosity as to how much it will go for. How sure are we that this is actually the copy Greg had?

He was the buyer for Greg's copy. There are some discolorations on the front cover that match the pattern on Greg's copy. I'm pretty sure it is the same but I wonder if he didn't lift one of Greg's photos from the first eBay listing before it was damaged.

Don't know, but perhaps Shibus didn't do the photo sharing opt out clause on e-bay.

I Did. But how hard is to to save an image to your computer and modify it as you wish. I think that opt out option just keeps ebay from allowing their use.
And don't let the opening bid fool you. I'm sure it has a hefty reserve that won't be revealed until met or put up after the auction with a buy it now. He did the same with a S/L Salem's Lot I sold him. Without knowing of a reserve it ended at around $850.00 before buyer's premium and then showed up later with a $2250.00 buy it now/best offer tag. He bought this one from me for $1026.00
Personally, I think the sale of the book deserves the whole story. At least it gives provenance to the damage.
I guess it all comes down to a simple choice for me. "Get Busy Living, or Get Busy Dying".

yep... definitely is the same book (see same discoloration spot)
but greg's pic from his auction is on the left... on the right is the pic for the "new" seller. it definitely looks like a pre-damage version (from greg's first auction).

note, i've ironed out creases before in books...and if done correctly, it can greatly improve the condition.
this ledger i got was totally creased wrinkled throughout... i was able to iron it out and look at it now... perfect...

i've done this to two other proofs with great results.... it's really got to be done carefully, but i've devised a method that seems to work pretty well. (i was planning on doing it myself to the gunslinger had i won it).

that said... i think the current seller of the gunslinger proof is simply using a pre-damaged picture.

Plug in iron, place on item, move it around. (This can be done to a musical accompliament)

    nothing too special...

if you want to straighten a bent cover...

    1) place a thin ironed cotton handkerchief under the cover... between the cover and the front page (if you don't do this, any printed ink on the front page will "melt" and bleed on the under side of the front cover.) make sure the handkerchief has no wrinkles in it and the cover closes flat over it (this is why the handkerchief has to be thin).

    2) place the book flat on a clean surface with the cover facing up.

    3) place another ironed handkerchief over the top of the cover (i usually double up this one or use two handkerchiefs).

    4) with the iron on low steam, make quick strokes across the handkerchief drapped cover-more strokes rather than long surface contact is better.
(make sure the iron is clean and that it doesn't sputter/spit water...light steam has to come out without dripping)

    5) keep a check on the cover, and make sure you're not scorching it... it should straighten out after a little while.
note that if the iron is too hot, the ink from the front of the cover will bleed off onto the handkerchief.

    6) practice on several cheap books before you try it on an expensive book... i always test the iron heat out on a cheapy before trying it on an expensive one.
    - this works best on proofs that aren't laminated- be especially careful on books that have laminated covers as the laminate will melt - (much lower heat on these).... that's what i had to do with the dreamcatcher ledger since it has a laminated cover.

    7) disclaimer... again, practice on some cheap books... if you don't feel comfortable with your skills and your results... don't ruin an expensive book by scorching it and then blame me.
