If I had the funds, I would. There are other scarce proofs but I think we can all agree that none of them are as iconic as the original Doubledays.
True...in better shape, it would have gone for thousands more....
Wow... Might I ask a question... would you think Carrie is VG+ shape to F shape... go over $10K? 15K? Bob, if I may... what would you be willing to go to?

Seller actually came to me first looking for an offer and he sent pics...It was in terrible shape in my opinion...VERY rare, but only About Good shape. I felt like I was out of my league on that one, not being a big proof collector myself....so I did not make an offer...I am shocked at how high it actually went for....solidified in my mind that I would have been way off on any offer I might have given.
Dragline : Nothin'. A handful of nothin'. You stupid mullet head. He beat you with nothin'. Just like today when he kept comin' back at me - with nothin'.
Luke : Yeah, well, sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand.
It's a proof I obviously want for my collection as I don't have any of the Doubleday ones, but even if I hadn't just blown my annual budget last week with David, I am still thinking that I would not have gone for that one mainly due to condition. I realize to find one for sale is highly unlikely but I just couldn't see myself bidding around what it sold for even if I had the money.
If I had the money, I'd probably have bid on it, simply because of its rarity. Good thing that I don't have that kind of money.
John
I thought it sold for about the right price. But, as you all have said, it is in pretty rough condition. One in fine condition might have brought three times the price of this one.
I was watching it with my hand poised for a $3900.07 snipe bid... when it went over 4 grand, I went for a walk... so that I didn't do something stupid that I really didn't need to do right now.
Is Chris Cavalier back on the collector's road?
