Thanks, Dilly. No offense taken. We've been hit by spammers before, thus the sensitivity. I do hope you'll stick around and post, we'd love to get your insight into the stories, the books, and from a collectors' standpoint the values. Good luck with your auction.
And, on the other side of the transaction, good luck on your bidding, John!

I've moved the updated list of King proofs to the very first post in this thread. It still includes some of the manuscripts, because I just can't figure out how to separate them from the other proofs. Some manuscripts are easy, but others (such as the "Second Draft" manuscript/proof for Bag of Bones) have me stumped. Also, the contest proof/manuscript for Green Mile #1. Do I list them under a separate heading of Manuscripts or leave them in the proofs list?
John
I vote for a separate heading. Just because I think they are as different to a proof as a proof is different to the first edition. Also, for someone like myself who buys proof's I would probably like the manuscripts kept separate because I am just looking for the different types of proof a book has, not manuscripts when referencing this list.
btw, congrats John!
Geoff
Yeah, but how do I distinguish between a manuscript and a proof? Usually, it's not a problem, but there are instances, like I mention above, where it can be a real dilemma.
And thanks!
John
To my way of thinking, manuscripts are unprocessed documents, whereas proofs have been reset or formatted by the publisher. Page proofs, for example, are laid out, with running headers and crop marks to indicate the final trim size.
A manuscript is more or less exactly the way it came off the author's printer, bearing little resemblance to what the book will ultimately look like.
Sounds like a good definition to me!! Other comments??
John
Bev's distinctions make sense to me.
Congrats on your purchase, John, and on your sale, Dilly.

There is one odd proof (Pet Sematary or Misery, I can't remember which at the moment) that is basically a reproduction of the manuscript without any editing. It has monospace typography, like a typewriter, and possibly even some reproduced annotations in the margins. However, it is bound in a glossy book cover with front matter added by the publisher and sized like a book, so I would call it a proof.
That was Pet Semetary. I would also call that a proof, given that it's got the cover, etc.
John
thought some of you might be interested in this proof, you don't see them to often The Green Mile 2 UK proof

That seems to be a good BIN price, too!
John
Congratulations John for the Dolan's proof. I was watching it to see if you would get it.
What Dolan's Proof?
Dolan's Cadillac proof
Thanks.
John
According to the listing it is a "unique" proof. I can see the desirability and value of it but how is it unique?
Nate
That's what I figured but was hoping you got something truly "unique". Great buy anyway. I am jealous.
Nate
Now you just need the GRAY version proof of Dolan's!
Only when it shows up when I can afford it!
John
List on page 1 of this thread updated to show the two Dolan's Cadillac proofs.
