Has anyone else received advanced reading copies of Mr. Mercedes?
My proof arrived a month or so ago But the advance reading copy the publisher sent me seems to be a first-rate addition with the letter different from the proof letter Wondering if anybody else received the same thing?
I am on the mailing list for the first edition advance copy. I do not receive the proofs. they reserve those for people in Argentina. Didnt realize the letter would be different.
Actually received two copies yesterday! one at my old address and one at my new address!

The "regular" proof is a trade-paperback sized softcover with a publisher's letter. The one they're talking about is a trade hardcover with a different publisher's letter.

do you consider those proofs? i mean, since they stopped sending me proofs, they've been sending me the hardcover with the letter for years. my understanding is that it just the finished first printing with the tipped in letter.

I consider them review copies, not real proofs.

This close to publication date, since they have the finished copies in stock, they send them. They always follow up a proof with a final copy anyway (so reviewers can check any quotes against the final text), so there's no point in sending out an ARC at this late date.

I also think they send out hardcovers if they don't have enough proofs to go around. I'm thinking of Under the Dome here.
