I'd always envisioned a magazine as an "anthology" that was issued a regular, periodic intervals. Then I got thinking about those "Best of Year" anthologies that used to (and maybe still do) come out annually. I think my definition would sound familiar to some US Supreme Court rulings--I can't define it, but I'll know it when I see it.

As a participant in many anthologies, I think I can answer this one -- it is a collection of works by different authors. It is an exact analogy to a single author collection like Nightmares and Dreamscapes, except more than one author contributes. There is such a thing as a non-fiction anthology (a collection of essays by different authors) but the term generally refers to collections of short stories (or novelettes or novellas). I don't think of magazines like F&SF or Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine as anthologies. They're magazines, that also contain book reviews and non-fiction columns.

Thanks for the input guys. Most interesting. I also do not think of magazines as anthologies.

    Default UK proof

I know there has been talk that there may only be one ( UK DTI proof) . Does anyone else own this one? ( Bob, John, Mike, David W., Terry )
This one is in shrink wrap. I'm tempted to remove the shrinkwrap to see if there are any other materials inside.

I definitely WOULD remove the shrinkwrap and see what is inside. Surely the shrinkwrap is not original to the book and you could always reapply shrinkwrap.

If I recall the listing on ABE for this particular book there is a hint of soiling somewhere or other. Maybe the front wrap? That couldn't have occurred if the book was shrinkwrapped when new.

Who knows, it may be signed!

Oh, BTW, congratulations on getting the proof. You beat me by about an hour at most. Urrrgh!

Should anthologies, books about King or proofs with King introductons count? I should hope the list is restricted to works written solely by Stephen.

    Lots of great stuff!!!

The Sphere Gunslinger is awesome!!! I vote to remove the shrinkwrap. I think a collector will protect a book far better than a thin piece of plastic anyway.

And you never WILL know what's in there, if you don't.

I agree with Hutch. The list should only be for works solely written by King. There can be another list for anthologies, which I suspect, would be rather large given the number of anthologies published.

I would also restrict the list to not include the signed limiteds, such as The New Lieutenant's Rap, Dolan's Cadillac and Six Stories, but to the books issued as trade editions. Does anyone agree? Disagree?

Haha...in another thread I just finished saying how I never see older books in shrinkwrap...

But, I wonder if this was put in wrap after the fact? Or was it wrapped when it got sent out to reviewers? That seems odd, in that reviewers would be expected to read and discard the book, since it would not have been considered a collectible at the time. (But I don't know what year the Spehere publication was).

I'm certain the shrink wrap was added later.
