Okay - why do people feel the need to post mysterious things like Herbert west did above? Just tell us already and stop with the games!
Dragline : Nothin'. A handful of nothin'. You stupid mullet head. He beat you with nothin'. Just like today when he kept comin' back at me - with nothin'.
Luke : Yeah, well, sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand.
I'd settle for the Plume Gunslinger proof.

Happy Halloween everyone,
After I discovered the existence of “The Stand” Doubleday Printer’s Proof recently, that has been with its only owner for 35 years, it became a priority to hopefully see it, and possibly acquire it. As good fortune would dictate, the owner was actually a gentleman I had prior dealings with indirectly. He is a former UK publisher and collector, and I purchased the bulk of his Stephen King collection when he disposed of them a decade ago, but this proof was not part of that collection. It was only after I found his younger brother “‘Salem’s Lot” recently in New York that I became aware of his existence.
When Stephen came to London in 1983 to do a collection of interviews and promotional announcements for “Christine”, the owner was able to get many of his rare items signed at one time. Like “Carrie” and “’Salem’s Lot”, this proof appears to have been created after the Crane proof because it is a full text and the cover graphics appear to closely resemble the finished dust jacket design that would be later used.
Like most proofs at the time, it is not dated, but since the announced published date was September 1978, and not November 1978, it would appear that it was an early in-house example before the publication was pushed back.
I hope you enjoy.
Gerald
Thanks for sharing a great treat for Halloween! Absolutely stunning as always, Gerald! You are the master of the rare find. It's so nice to just get to lay eyes on these one of a kind items.
Another amazing find! Thanks for sharing!
Great find Gerald. I am so pissed I passed on that years ago, but I'm stoked you got it. The condition wasn't as bad as you thought, was it? I told you I have seen worse. Not bad considering it was read and it's 37 years old. What's next, "The Shining" or "Night Shift"?
Mark
Congratulations Gerald! Simply brilliant. Thanks for sharing.
Stunning, as always!
