Yes, the remaining NEL proofs are all the same format as ‘Salem’s Lot. They are all brown wraps with a couple of differences with “Carrie” and “The Stand”. Actually Stu Tinker showed me a photo of your copy of “The Stand” about 8 years ago and asked me was it the same as the one I had. I told him that my copy did not have a dust jacket, and there was no graphic details on the covers at all. I told him that I had never seen a copy like the one you had, and still haven’t. Did you get it from the UK? I have never seen one in my travels.

Does your copy have cut page ends, and is the page type all the same color? You are very lucky as it looks beautiful.

I would love to go to Thailand some day. Will definitely let you know if we do.

I did get my pre-publication copy of The Stand from the UK. It was listed on ABE and the seller said he used to have a bookstore and often got books in a similar format from publishers. He called it an Advance Reading Copy and seemed pretty sure of what he was talking about. I had always assumed that an earlier proof of the book was done and now you have confirmed it. The pages all seem to be the same color and the page ends are smooth. It is a nice copy. A little wrinkling to the dj on the spine due (I think) to the gluing process but otherwise it is about as new.

Copper Dragon Books listed a Bachman Books proof on ABE recently and I was intrigued by the fact that they called it a proof for the Plume trade PB. I always thought (or should I say assumed) that the proof was done for the NAL trade HC. So I went and checked my copy and sure enough, it has the Plume 'P' on the front and spine.

I guess all the veteran proof collectors know this but I was genuinely surprised.

I must admit that I have never purchased anything from Copper Dragon, but can I ask why you feel that way? I was speaking with Mark recently about a book and I would appreciate any insight if possible.

Many years ago Mark sold me a "First Edition" of The Shining. This was before the gutter code for a true first was widely known. The book I bought had been carefully altered and a 1st edition CR page was inserted in a non 1st edition book. I firmly believe Mark was aware (and likely performed the act) that the book was bogus.
He has also listed books on ABE, then pulled them after a buyer bought the item.

Some have bought from him with no problem, but I say Buyer Beware.

The next time you speak with him, feel free to tell him that he owes me a legitimate 1st edition of The Shining.
