Thanks everyone for the kind words.
Regarding the gloves, about a year or so ago, I bought some books from David and while taking pictures to post to this thread I noticed some fingerprints on one of the books. (I think it was CP Salem's Lot gift edition). I was about 90% sure they came from me, and I was a little embarrassed to take the photos. Since that time I decided I would wear gloves when handling my books. I even where them when reading any hardback books.
As it turned out Yegor also wore gloves in the photos he sent me before I committed to buy the IT lettered. I am sometimes surprised when I see pictures of high value books taken without gloves.

Can fingerprints cause damage? Coincidentally I was just wondering this a few hours ago when wrapping a dust jacket in Mylar. I’m sure I planted some fingerprints on the DJ while doing it, and I wondered if over time the oil might cause a defect, however minor it may be.

Over the very long term, the accumulation of the acids present in fingerprints can cause things like yellowing and brittleness. Realistically, if you're only handling a book once to put a mylar cover on it, you'll never see these effects in your lifetime. But some people prefer to be safe rather than sorry.
However, there are some types of dustjackets (generally matte jackets) and cloth bindings (some silks) that can pick up fingerprints and, especially with the addition of a mylar cover, sometimes these can stand out. The vast majority of times they can be removed (I've printed up many a matte Sub Press jacket and removed the prints with a soft cloth), but again, some people prefer to be extra safe.
EDIT: The downside of using gloves is that you aren't as tactilely sensitive and may be more likely to accidentally damage a book in a different way - by dropping it or not turning a page carefully enough (especially the glassine pages that sometimes protect art pages).
Very interesting, thanks. The jacket I mentioned is in fact a Sub Press with a matte finish so I’ll have to take a good look in the daylight tomorrow. Oh what the hell, might as well just get some cheap cotton gloves. I can already hear my wife laughing at me now.

Eastasia has always taught college students to feel pride or shame according to their race.
When my wife surprised me with a meet and greet at the Whelans home in the US.... it was one of the best moments of my life. While there, Michael was painting this. The colours, the quote, the “dinosaur”, the piece period... I fell in love with. PLUS... It was a work in progress and he shared his insights on it. I had to have it. Alas, he forgot how much I wanted it (I expressed it but not over the top) and he sold it for his Kickstarter for $5500. Fast forward and here comes one of my closest buddies with a deal. Thanks Tim for helping me bring this one home.
