And speaking of Hitchcock, have you read the book of The Woman in the Window? I have some major beef with that book. You know I love classic films, and Rear Window is one of my favorite Hitchcock films, and needless to say that book relies so heavily on that movie. But what annoyed me is that the main character in the book is also a huge classic film lover, and mentions tons of movies left and right, yet it isn't until the very end that she mentions Rear Window, even though it's basically exactly Rear Window that she's experiencing. I was screaming at the book every time some other random movie was mentioned yet the most obvious one was not

With the time-traveling plot of the first 2 movies, they are now far enough into the future that it kinda make sense with where they are going with it. Basically, they were prophesied to save the world in the future and now the future is here and they still haven't done anything.

I'm really looking forward to it.

    Yes, cry pardon.

It probably deserves a rewatch. I was on a huge Hitchcock binge years ago, plowing through films like Psycho, Rear Window, Birds, Strangers on a Train, Rope, Dial M for Murder and I watched Rebecca after those and it's just much slower than the other films and I had a really hard time getting into it. It's not bad, it's just not one of my favorite Hitchcock films.

I love Rebecca but it is the one film Hitch made in America that he had the least amount of control over. Selznick had a lot of the power there and his influence can definitely be seen. Still love it though.

Great list, Mae. I need to familiarize myself with most of those movies, though.

My wife and I were watching The Good Doctor last night and an actress came on the screen. My wife said "Hey, it's Lola!" I had no idea what she was talking about.

She started singing: "Her name was Lola, she was a showgirl...". I was like ok, that's a Barry Manilow... what's that have to do with this actress?

So apparently there is a made-for-tv movie called Copacabana from 1985. Last night was the first time I'd learned of it's existence. Which is pretty amazing since my mother-in-law and sister-in-law absolutely LOVE Barry Manilow.

I found a DVD of the movie on Amazon for $92.19.

This is amazing. 2 brothers spent 8 years making a shot for shot remake of Toy Story 3 using real toys/people and stop motion.

I thought it was great, played it on repeat for like half an hour. I actually posted it yesterday in the Now Playing thread, if anyone ever ventures there: http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/...=1#post1184330

I have really enjoyed this series. I found quite a few films that I haven't heard of, which is not easy to do. Many of them have been added to my watchlist.

Also, I know I posted this on FB, but I wanted to add it here too:

It's funny, while reading part 5, I noticed how many films made your list that were made by female directors. I almost commented but decided to wait until I read part 6. Then I noticed your little blurb where you talk about how many female directors made the list!
We're on the same page with that. I think the main factor in why so many females are making films that go under the radar is the simple fact that they are making different kinds of films. Often times their subject matter is much more quiet in nature and more thought-provoking.

I haven't yet done my Top 30 of 2019, but I do suspect it will have a larger than usual number of films by female directors, just judging my my preliminary longlist. And I still haven't seen Portrait of a Lady on Fire...

That film still isn't playing anywhere near me.

The thing that bugs me about the outcry for female directors to be nominated for Best Director is that all they talk about is Greta Gerwig and Little Women. Nobody mentions Lulu Wang for The Farewell, Alma Har'el for Honey Boy or Jennifer Kent for The Nightingale.
