On the topic of piercing a child's ears...
Who are you really doing that for? Is your child a fashion accessory? Does she really need to have holes poked in her ears so that you can put earrings on her that match her dress?
It just seems ridiculous. Piercing especially should only be allowed with consent of the pierced themselves. If there's a valid reason for having it done at an early age, when the child can't object, I'd like to know it, because for all intents and purposes it seems like it's solely a vanity thing. "Look how cute my baby girl is with her pierced ears!"
It just seems silly, and unlike circumcision, there is no benefit to even possibly be argued/claimed. At least with circumcision you can defend your point, "I heard it's better for the kid." With the piercing thing, what can you really say?
Yeah, you can say "It's my kid, I'll do what I want!" But, when it comes to a persons body, you don't own that, and you never will. Who are we to make choices like that? Yeah, the holes grow back, but how vain are we as a society that we feel the need to inflict pain on a child so that the child might be able to wear fashion accessories that really only complement the mother's ability to style her child?
