That's what makes Nolan's Trilogy so brilliant. Batman is only really in The Dark Knight: in Begins he's mostly Bruce Wayne trying to create Batman, In TDK he's full fledged Batman who does what he set out to do, in TDKR Batman is older, beaten, broken and unneeded and not what he once was...actually there is no Batman in The Dark Knight Rises, merely Bruce Wayne in a suit. But since Bruce Wayne and Batman are the same person to say Batman is barely in it, i.e., suited up Batman, doesn't make sense.

I don't see how you can say Batman is your favourite character yet your biggest issue is the character of Gotham city which is about the universe Batman exists in, not that exists because of Batman.

Out of Burton's two Batman films I've always found Batman Returns to be more entertaining in it's over the top silliness.
    Well said.

I enjoyed both franchises and directors for what they are worth (which is IMO, a lot).

I think Burton's style has kind of not aged well with time, or at least nowadays some folks seem to think all of his movies are too similar. I like his stylistic approach to directing, fantastic production design, and his weird off-kilter personality as it is imbued in his films.

When Burton's Batman was in its prime, it WAS the new incarnation of how a comic book movie should be. It totally reinvented the style of these films and brought it up a level from the homogeneous, family orientated approach of the Superman franchise.

Nolan (and Whedon) turned the Comic Book Film world on its head because not only were they offering newer, fresher interpretations of these characters that have been loved for so long, but because they came half a generation later (and were visionary directors) they existed in the era where it was technologically possible to REALLY adapt these pop culture films as they should be.

Nolan's and Burton's Batman were both great franchises, but they are different animals and should be judged as such.

How did Whedon re-invent anything when most of the Avengers have had several movies not made by him before The Avengers? He re-invented Hulk I'll give him that (only good part of The Avengers) but that is only after several failed re-inventions in the past decade. Unless you meant to type Singer, which is correct. I really, really hate Burton now. He's refused to grow. I really thought Big Fish was Burton's turning point film but then he just went back to the status quo afterwards :'( It is a shame he'll never make another movie as special as Big Fish ever again.

Batman feels more Nolan than Burton, but we'll see. Hopefully he's neither and new.

    This.

Pablo has already stated that the original Batman film is near and dear to his heart. He considers it one of his favorite films of all time. There's no way the Nolan films were ever going to compete in his mind. Because of that fact, I expect him to feel the way he does about the Nolan films.

Also, of course the newer Batman films aren't going to look and feel like the Burton Batman. You can make a film like that today. It's just pure cheese. Audiences will reject it faster than Dikembe Mutombo would block a Muggsy Bogues layup.

It also doesn't surprise me that some people consider the recent Batman trilogy overhyped. Whenever something becomes popular, there's always going to be a group of people that will consider it overhyped or overrated. I'm used to it.

To me, Burton's Batman is the Batman. But also from the Animated Series. I disagree about cheese. If Burton's films were cheese then Nolan's were trying too hard and too serious. And I enjoyed his middle entry, but not for Batman, but the Joker, of course. Of course you couldn't make the same type of Batman now, so we'll see what they come up with for this one. But I'm holding out hope it's less Nolan.

I agree to a certain extent on pretty much everything you said here. However I think any one of the Nolan trilogy tops all but the first Burton Batman. Also I think Bale was a great Bruce Wayne, Keaton was a better Batman.

I like the atmosphere and tone of the Nolan trilogy, an attempt at realism and grit, but people tend to forget that it's not the only Batman adaptation, nor the truest. The Adam West Batman from the 60's and most of the earlier Batman comic books from the 40's until the 70's were a much more light hearted tone.

Burton's Batman is the 70's and 80's Batman, and even quite influence by Englehart's works from then (70's). A darker Batman than previously filmed, but stylistically still firmly rooted in the comic book tradition. Same goes with The Batman Animated Series, though it borrowed a bit of their style from the Fleischer Superman cartoons from the 40's (some of the best animation to this day).

So with that said, my favourite Batman flick is either The Dark Knight or Batman (1989), dunno, more of Joker fan anyway

There was a B vs S trailer for the "Avengers" movie I saw today. It was really cool, but I couldn't help coming away with the fact that, Afflecks "Batman" seemed to big for the suit or vice versa.

Part of that maybe due to the preview showing him in his custom suit for fighting big bad asses that is based on the suit used for the Batman/Superman fight in Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns comic run.

The other reason is because even his regular suit looks padded
