Default Stephen King Book Release Dates List

Do we have a list of dates when each King book was released? I mean day and month, not just year. It's easy enough for the newer books (just look on Amazon), but it'd be nice to have this reference for all of them.

    The List
Since full release dates were not generally recorded for books, it can be difficult to discover correct dates, especially for earlier books. Verified dates are listed in bold.

I would LOVE to have this info, but fear it will be VERY difficult to ascertain for all of the books. Great Idea, now for a little help from the community........

You have some of the ones I have Brice, so I think it's safe to say that they're correct.

Once again, a great idea. I am going to edit the catalog to include specific release dates we research and find.

I'll just post a link to this site. Some of the release dates jive with what you have, but one or two don't.

Be careful with some of the information that is around on release dates. Its easy for the newer versions, but not for the earlier ones. Justin Brooks' book has many release dates but not all of them are confirmed.

You should only quote a date if you can confirm it yourself by copyright page, ARC/Proof or publicity material from the publisher.

Most of the dates for the recent books came from off the publishers website. The couple I didn't get there were checked by comparing dates on multiple sites. I know some of them could be erroneous. Over the weekend I'll try to go back though the ones I posted and label those that are questionable.

I would second Mr. Rabbit Trick's concern about accepting these without validation. Some of the early ones don't jive with information I have but who's to say who's right and who's wrong?

    Good point about verification.
Not sure how long now books have been usually street dated on a Tuesday, but looking at the list I see that Desperation and The Regulators show 9/1/1996-a Sunday, which seems odd. The Dark half shows Wednesday November 1, 1989.
Storm of the Century shows as a Monday, Black House a Saturday.

Anything supposedly released on the 1st is suspect I think. The month may be correct but when no exact date is known the 1st is used.

I've put in a disclaimer to the list. If any of the currently stated dates are erroneous, please let me know and I'll unbold them.

Pablo, you could simply put a (U) next to any date you have that is unverified, and at the bottom add a legend noting what the (U) means.

If I recall correctly, George Beahm used specific release dates in his book THE STEPHEN KING STORY. I think they were incorporated into his text and not in a comprehensive list. I'm not sure where he got them but George's research was always pretty good. I'll check when I get home tonight.

Careful with this website. You have to be careful not to jump on the first date you see. They have dates for hardcover, paperback, eBook, etc. editions of each book.

Just a heads up for everyone.

Maybe, but I don't want the list to look cumbersome. I think bolding, like I explained in the disclaimer, looks good.

Now if we could locate more dates!

This would be very hard to do. I was just checking some resources, and months sure, but the day when The Shining was released? Whew, that's a toughie!

Anyway, I'll see if I can contribute

I just had an idea to look at the New York Times archive. They archive every article that ever appeared since the paper's inception. Surely the would have articles on release of each King book?

    Let's see...

Here's a review of Cujo, dated August 14, 1981: http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpag...5BC0A967948260 - so it must've come out in August. And here's Different Seasons, also August: http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpag...5BC0A964948260

Here they all are, very interesting, history-wise, but no solid release dates: http://query.nytimes.com/search/quer...ll&sort=oldest
